Belift Lab says Illit's debut song 'Magnetic' topped 900 million Spotify streams, the fastest K-pop group debut song to reach the milestone.
A Debut Song Reaches a New Streaming Milestone
According to The Korea Times, girl group Illit's 'Magnetic' surpassed 900 million streams on Spotify, becoming the fastest K-pop group debut song to hit the mark on the world's largest music streaming platform.
The agency Belift Lab announced the milestone on Tuesday, saying the track crossed the threshold on Sunday, roughly two years and seven months after its release in March 2024.
"This is the shortest time taken among the debut songs of K-pop groups that have reached the same number of streams on Spotify," the agency said in a release cited by the newspaper.
Why a Debut Track Breaking Records Surprises Fans
The Korea Times notes that 'Magnetic' blends Pluggnb and house genres and compares the feeling of being drawn to a crush to a magnet — a stylistic gamble that has clearly aged into long-tail streaming strength.
Per the report, the song swept top spots on local music charts after its release and also entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart and the British Official Singles Chart Top 100, giving the milestone a global foundation rather than a domestic one.
The Evidence Behind the 900 Million Claim
The measurable substrate here is straightforward: a Spotify stream count of over 900 million, reached on a Sunday and announced by Belift Lab two days later, roughly 31 months after the song's March 2024 release.
The Korea Times reports the superlative directly from the agency's own release, meaning the record framing comes from the company behind the group rather than an independent chart auditor — an interpretive point readers should weigh.
What is not in dispute is the raw figure the agency disclosed and the song's earlier chart credentials on Billboard and the Official Singles Chart, both corroborated in the same report.
Netflix Opens K-pop Auditions to Arts High Schoolers
In separate agency news, Sportschosun reports that Netflix has confirmed production of 'We Go High,' a K-pop audition project with SM Culture & Contents in which students from South Korea's top arts high schools compete with their schools' honor at stake.
Applications opened October 21, open to first- and second-year students at schools with arts- or broadcasting-related programs, plus students entering such schools in the 2027 academic year.
The outlet says PDs Park Jin-kyung and Lee Jae-seok of Monstera House will direct, and that Netflix and SM C&C signed an MOU to support the group formed on the show beyond its debut, helping members showcase their abilities on the global stage.
