The franchise's first film steps into the light
On October 22, 2026, The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady's Treasure released its main trailer and main visual ahead of its December 11 theatrical release in Japan, as reported by Anime Trending and Anime Corner.
The film is the first theatrical feature in the franchise and features an original story written by series creator Hyuganatsu. Aoi Yuki returns as Maomao and Takeo Otsuka as Jinshi, joined by Mariya Ise as Muchin.

The newly revealed main trailer previews the film's theme song and introduces the movie's central mystery: a secret treasure hidden in a city on the water, where Jinshi must grant a deceased concubine's final wish and Maomao discovers medicines she has never seen before.
Both Anime Trending and Anime Corner describe the trailer as the film's main preview, following earlier promotional videos that introduced new characters separately.
A Kenshi Yonezu theme song — with a naming dispute
Anime Trending reports the song as 'Haru ga Akari,' while Anime Corner reports it as 'Haru ga Tomori' ('Spring Lights'), so fans should treat the exact romanization as unsettled until official materials settle it.
Either way, landing a Yonezu theme song is a statement of ambition for a first film, following the TV anime's high-profile musical roster — Season 3's ending song by Eve was previewed in September, per Anime Corner's related coverage.
A TV compilation, a novel, and a worldwide release
Anime Trending reports that a special compilation of Season 2 Cour 2, with about four minutes of additional footage tied to the season's final moments, will air on the Friday Roadshow program on November 11 at 9 PM JST to commemorate the film.
Anime Corner reports that Natsu Hyuga will also release a novel version of the movie story, adapting her own original plot and including elements that could not fit into the film itself.
Why this matters for the franchise
The film arrives at a moment of rapid expansion for The Apothecary Diaries: per Anime Corner and Anime Trending, the franchise has already spawned two manga adaptations, an upcoming Amazon live-action series, and Season 3, whose first split-cour season began this month.
A multiplatform adventure game, The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother, is set to launch on March 18, 2027, Anime Trending reports.
An original story from the creator herself, carried by a marquee theme song and a global theatrical partner, positions the film as the franchise's biggest escalation yet.
