Boygenius reunited for their first recorded performance since 2023's SNL appearance in Phoebe Bridgers' A24 acoustic set.
What Happened: Boygenius on Camera at Cherry Lane
Phoebe Bridgers paused her Lost Tour to film an acoustic set for A24's Sound Check At Cherry Lane Theatre series, with the video released on October 9, 2026, according to VICE. The film studio pairs musicians with directors, and Bridgers worked with Lance Oppenheim on hers.
Her Boygenius bandmates Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus joined her for two of three songs, marking the trio's first recorded performance together since 2023.
VICE reports Bridgers opened with "On Video", with longtime collaborator Ethan Gruska on piano — a track she contributed to the film Primetime, in which she also makes her major acting debut.
Baker and Dacus then took the stage for "Lost Boys" and "Haunted", both from Bridgers' 2026 album Lost Weekend, with Baker and Dacus holding writing credits on "Haunted".
The Set Itself
This development is a filmed performance, and the clip is the story: A24's Sound Check At Cherry Lane Theatre captured Bridgers, Baker and Dacus performing together for the first time on camera in roughly three years, with Lance Oppenheim behind the camera — which VICE describes as making it both a sonic and visual feast.
Why It's Surprising
According to VICE, this is the trio's first recorded performance since their 2023 SNL appearance, even though Boygenius fans have never stopped carrying a torch for the Grammy-winning group.
There have been no rumors of new music, and earlier reunion moments were lost to fans: VICE notes that Bridgers brought Baker and Dacus out at a New York tour stop at the end of September to perform "Not Strong Enough" and "Powers", but her moratorium on phones and cameras at shows means no footage of that reunion exists.
This A24 film is therefore the only documentation of the trio back together, which is what makes the release land as an event rather than a routine set.
A Wider Weekend of Returns
That Eric Alper's outlet places this reunion wave in a longer arc, noting that younger listeners keep discovering 2000s guitar music, and that Janine Warren's new oral history 'The World Was A Mess But His Hair Was Perfect' (out October 23 via Omnibus Press) argues scenes are built by clubs, journalists, producers and fans as much as by famous musicians.
VICE, meanwhile, reports a second reunion the same weekend: Jack White brought out Brendan Benson and Jack Lawrence at a Nashville show on October 10, 2026, playing favorites from The Raconteurs' 2006 debut and 2008 follow-up in their first performance together since 2019.
What Comes Next
VICE reports the Lost Tour continues through North America on October 13, 2026, with a seven-date U.K. leg kicking off November 23, seven European dates after that, and the tour concluding in Stockholm on December 12, 2026.
VICE notes the trio most recently performed live together during Bridgers' tour, but no new Boygenius music has been rumored.
