Miranda Lambert shocked Nashville's newest venue with a surprise Chris Stapleton duet and a 12-piece string section on her 'Crisco' opening night.
A Surprise Duet Opens a New Nashville Stage
According to Backstage Country, Miranda Lambert became the first artist to headline The Truth, the new 4,400-capacity venue in Nashville's Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood, with a one-night-only sold-out show on Thursday, Oct. 1 celebrating her new album 'Crisco.' The surprise came when she called Chris Stapleton onstage for 'A Song To Sing' — the duet that opens the album — and Backstage Country reports the room erupted as the two longtime friends traded verses and harmonies. The album arrived just hours later, on Oct.
Why It Was a First, Not Just a Setlist
Backstage Country notes the night carried several firsts beyond the guest spot: Lambert's band performed with strings onstage for the first time, as a 12-piece string section gave both 'Crisco' material and career favorites a lush, cinematic feel. She opened with 'Kerosene,' her first-ever single, then wove between old hits and new tracks, including the title song and a solo 'Snakeskin Boots.' For devoted listeners, the surprise Stapleton moment mattered because the pair wrote 'A Song To Sing' with Jesse Frasure and Jenee Fleenor, and it earned nominations for Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 68th GRAMMY Awards.
The Video Moment Fans Are Watching
The duet's appeal extends past the stage: Backstage Country reports the 'A Song To Sing' music video is set at a roller rink and fully embraces a retro '70s style, and that Lambert has credited Stapleton and his wife Morgane with understanding the song's emotional heart from their own experience. Backstage Country also quotes Lambert explaining the lighter spirit behind the record: 'I've made a lot of records with a lot of heavy subjects over the years. This album feels mostly lighthearted. It's refreshing to get up on stage and sing something fun.'
What Comes Next: A Texas Cover and Sold-Out Dates
As a follow-up surprise, uDiscoverMusic reports Lambert has released a cover of Rosanne Cash's 1981 No. 1 'Seven Year Ache' with fellow Texas native Parker McCollum, giving it a disco-inspired spin matching the new era. It is an iTunes exclusive bundled with 'Crisco' downloads through 11:59 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 8. uDiscoverMusic also notes a sold-out show at Billy Bob's Texas on October 6, a CBS Mornings conversation with Anthony Mason this Friday, and seven CMA Award nominations for Lambert in 2026.
