Pinterest released its first Beauty Trend Report and launched AI Beauty Guides, with searches for mocha balayage up 949% and cat-eye nails surging.
What Pinterest Just Released
Pinterest has published its first-ever Beauty Trend Report, based on global search data comparing July 2025 with July 2026, and launched a new AI tool called Beauty Guides in the same week. The report argues that beauty searches are getting dramatically more specific: as Mamabella notes, people are no longer searching for "a bob" but a "textured French bob with wispy bangs," and a red manicure has become a dark-red cat-eye one. Pedestrian TV adds that 85% of weekly Pinterest users now say they use the platform for initial inspiration rather than simply recreating a look — a signal that the site has become a first stop for beauty ideas.
Hair Goes Warm, Moody and Dimensional
The report's biggest hair numbers point toward warm, multi-tonal colour for autumn. According to Mamabella, searches for mocha balayage are up 949%, soft copper blonde 845% and cherry cola brunette 788% — a darker base with ribbons of warmth through it. Pedestrian TV echoes the shift, calling single-block colour a thing of the past and noting oxidised copper up 517%. On cuts, long layered bobs rose 622%, short layered bobs 571% and French bobs with wispy bangs 394%. Mamabella also reports that celebrity choices helped: Margot Robbie's collarbone-length bob at Chanel's Paris show and Beyoncé's February French bob both fed the momentum.
Nails and Blush Go Playful
Nail searches are the report's most explosive numbers. Polka dot cat-eye nails are up 1,585%, jelly pink chrome 1,469%, milky white chrome almond nails 1,402% and goth cat-eye 911%, per Mamabella, which explains that the cat-eye finish comes from magnetic polish that pulls shimmer into a shifting line. Coffee-shop colours lead the warmer palette, with caramel nude nails up 943% and coffee nail ideas 922%. Blush is equally prominent: Mamabella cites makeup artist Christian Briceno telling Bustle that blush has become part of a look's shape and mood, with dusty rose up 189% and terracotta 164% — "blush blindness," as Pedestrian TV puts it.
The AI Beauty Guides Bet
The tooliest part of the launch is Beauty Guides, an AI feature Mamabella says rolled out this week inside the Pinterest app. Open a hair or nail Pin, tap "Get the Guide," and Pinterest analyses the image for hairstyle, colour, nail shape and finish, then generates salon-ready advice: what to ask for, what to expect, similar looks and step-by-steps for recreating it at home. The catch, per Mamabella: it is iOS-only and US-only at launch, with no UK or Android date announced. The pitch targets a familiar problem — a screenshot of copper hair doesn't tell a colourist whether you want balayage, a gloss or a full tint.
Runways, Scents and a Cautionary Note
Some of Pinterest's trends track with what Vogue saw backstage in Paris for Spring 2027, from Isabel Marant's pink-sprayed lengths to mirror-finish makeup, though Vogue's runway take is its own seasonal read rather than a confirmation of search data. A warning sits alongside the hype: a study presented September 29 at the EADV Congress 2026, reported by CNN via Gulf Coast Newsnow, found nearly 95% of the most viral glass-skin videos contained misleading claims. Hype, on Pinterest or TikTok, is not evidence.
What Comes Next
The report signals a shift from chasing every viral look toward adapting trends to personal style, and the searches themselves are direction, not proof — Mamabella cautions that a percentage jump from a few hundred to a few thousand searches can look dramatic while staying niche. Pedestrian TV frames the rest of 2026 as belonging to these seven specific looks, from cherry-cola copper to solid-perume-free skin scents, with solid perfumes themselves up 333%. For Pinterest, the next test is whether Beauty Guides travels beyond US iOS users and whether AI-translated inspiration actually changes what people ask for in the salon chair.
