Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis cast Jasmine Cephas Jones and Amber Gray to lead the gender-flipped 'Warriors' on Broadway.

Miranda and Davis Set Their Cast for the Lunt-Fontanne

The principal casting for *Warriors*, the new Broadway musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis, is complete, the production announced October 20.

The initial cast includes Jaci Calderon as Fox, Aneesa Folds as Cleon, Amber Gray as Ajax, Julia Harriman as Mercy, Sasha Hutchings as Cowgirl, Gizel Jiménez as Rembrandt, Jasmine Cephas Jones as Swan, Kenita R. Miller as Cochise, Sasha Allen as Cyrus, Casey Likes as Luther, and Donald Webber Jr. as Masai.

Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

Why This Casting Is a Fan Event, Not Just a Headline

For devoted theatergoers, the surprise is how much of the 2024 *Warriors* concept album walks onto the stage: Playbill reports that Folds, Gray, Harriman, Hutchings, Jiménez, Jones and Miller all reprise roles they voiced on the album, while Casey Likes — who sang Jesse of The Orphans on the recording — moves into the villainous Luther.

WhatsOnStage adds the boldest swaps: Calderon replaces album voice performer Phillipa Soo as Fox, Sasha Allen takes over the Cyrus role sung by Ms. Lauryn Hill, and Donald Webber Jr. steps in where Colman Domingo sang on the album.

Hamilton Reunion Meets Cult-Classic Fandom

Variety frames the announcement as Miranda's next Broadway venture a decade after *Hamilton* became a pop culture sensation, and the casting doubles as a company reunion.

Casey Likes arrives from *Back to the Future: The Musical* and *Almost Famous* to deliver the film's most quoted line territory: 'Warriors — come out to play-ee-eh…' Good Morning America notes several cast members previously worked on *Hamilton*, *In the Heights* or the *Warriors* album.

A Creative Team With Broadway Pedigree

Jenny Koons directs the Broadway premiere, with Andy Blankenbuehler — Miranda's *In the Heights* and *Hamilton* choreographer and a Tony winner — co-directing and choreographing, according to Variety and Playbill.

The design team is stacked: scenic design by David Korins, costumes by Dede Ayite, lighting by Natasha Katz, sound by Jason Crystal, projections by Hana S. Kim, fight direction by Drew Leary, and music supervision by Kurt Crowley, with orchestrations by Crowley, Mike Elizondo and Scott Wasserman.

Producers include Thomas Kail, Miranda, Luis A. Miranda Jr. and Jeffrey Seller — the producing axis behind *Hamilton*. Miranda and Davis say in a joint statement that the show is 'a New York story to the bone,' steeped in genres from hip-hop to salsa, ska and metal.

Tickets, Lotteries and What Comes Next

The commercial rollout is already underway.

Good Morning America reports general-sale tickets open Thursday, October 22, while Playbill details a Capital One presale beginning October 20 at 10 AM ET via broadwaydirect.com, plus a $79 ticket lottery starting January 11, 2027 and a separate lottery selling the first two rows for $19.79 — the year the film premiered — beginning March 9.

Complete casting is still to come, and *Warriors* will be judged against its unusual origin story: a 2024 concept album executive produced by Nas and produced by Mike Elizondo that featured Ms. Lauryn Hill, Busta Rhymes, Billy Porter, Ghostface Killah, RZA and Marc Anthony before any stage performance existed.

The Story They're Racing to Tell in One Night

The musical adapts the 1979 Paramount film — itself based on Sol Yurick's 1965 novel — about a fictitious Coney Island gang framed for the murder of respected leader Cyrus at a Bronx summit, who must race home to prove their innocence and save Cyrus' hope for peace, as broadway.com and Deadline describe the premise.

Miranda and Davis call it 'an edge-of-your-seat journey from Brooklyn to the Bronx and back again' and 'the sound of something being born.'
