Chicago comedian Mojo Brookzz's debut Netflix special, "I Know You Lying," hit No. 1 on the U.S. top 10 one day after its Oct. 6 premiere.
One Day to the Top of Netflix
The Chicago comedian's debut Netflix stand-up special, "Mojo Brookzz: I Know You Lying," reached No. 1 on the streamer's list of the top 10 shows in the United States just one day after premiering Tuesday, Oct. 6, according to TheGrio. Brookzz, whose real name is Dyon Brooks, marked the milestone with an enthusiastic Instagram post reading "Number FU**ING ONE!!!!" alongside a photo of his television screen showing the ranking. "Thank you for showing up for me yall! I'm proud of what I created & I'm happy that yall loving it! Keep running them numbers up! I KNOW YOU LYING," he wrote. The special was filmed at Atlanta's Center Stage Theater and directed by Mike Lavin, and features his signature unfiltered takes on relationships, BBL culture, celebrity encounters, and family life.
From Four People in the Room to the Top 10
The speed of the climb is what makes the result remarkable for comedy fans. Per TheGrio, Brookzz started by making viral comedy sketches on social media before building a following that translated into sold-out tours, television appearances, and stages shared with established comedians. On Shannon Sharpe's "Club Shay Shay," he recalled his first show playing to an audience of just four people — "I remember going on stage, and I'm trying to tell these stories, but it wasn't like a real good body of work for me to go off of," he said. The journey was also shaped by a deeply personal loss: on "The Breakfast Club," Brookzz said his sister encouraged him to pursue comedy just two days before she died of cancer in 2013, and he began creating sketches about six months later.
A Résumé Built Before the Special Dropped
The No. 1 debut caps a steady climb through comedy's ranks rather than a flash of overnight luck. According to TheGrio, Brookzz's growing popularity led to a role on Nick Cannon's "Wild 'N Out" and a spot on Mike Epps' "We Them Ones" arena tour, and he also plays Basil Henderson in Tyler Perry's Netflix comedy series "Miss Governor." In 2025 he was named one of Variety's Comics to Watch, and his agency WME says his previous "I Know You F—n' Lying" tour sold more than 100,000 tickets across 40 cities. Those numbers explain why the special premiered with a built-in audience ready to run the numbers up.
What a No. 1 Debut Means Next
For a stand-up audience, a debut special topping the U.S. rankings one day after its Oct. 6 premiere positions Brookzz as one of the year's breakout comedy voices — TheGrio notes he already has another milestone to add to a résumé that now spans viral sketches, arena tours, Tyler Perry's "Miss Governor," and Variety's 2025 Comics to Watch list. The special's themes of relationships, BBL culture, celebrity encounters, and family life give the bits that broke through this week a new mainstream platform, and his celebratory post suggests he is, as TheGrio puts it, enjoying every minute of it.
