Astrologers say a rare Venus-Mercury double retrograde peaks October 24 in Scorpio, with Gemini, Virgo and Scorpio feeling it most.
A Rare Double Retrograde Begins
VICE reports that October 2026 brings an unusual double retrograde: Venus has been moving backwards since October 3 and continues until mid-November, and Mercury now joins it, stationing retrograde on October 24 at 20° Scorpio.
According to astrologer Rachel Ruth Tate, speaking to VICE, each of the three Mercury retrogrades this year has occurred in a water sign — Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces — stirring the mental and emotional pots simmering in readers' lives.
Tate calls this particular station deeply enlightening but says it will require uncomfortable, vulnerable conversations that may leave both sides feeling raw.
Why This One Feels Different
The surprise for devoted astrology readers is the intensity of the Scorpio pile-up.
YourTango columnist Leslie Hale writes that on October 23 the Sun joins Venus and Mercury in Scorpio, creating a stellium of planets in that intense water sign, and that Scorpio is experiencing a very rare double planet retrograde in its first house.
Hale cautions that with several planets retrograde, readers should not expect quick progress this week — the advice is to finish what is underway and focus on what needs to change rather than push forward at full speed.
The Signs in the Hot Seat
According to VICE, Tate names three signs that will dig deepest. Gemini, whose chart ruler Mercury sits in a sensitive, subconscious part of the chart, is urged to slow down and let itself feel.
Virgo, ruled by Mercury twice over, is asked what stories it can stop telling, as the retrograde lands in the part of the chart holding childhood impressions. Scorpio, the sign hosting the event itself, is told its freedom lives in taking emotional accountability.
Hale adds in YourTango that Taurus may face relationship clashes and power struggles, while Leo could see explosive arguments and resurfacing family drama.
The Prescribed Medicine
The remedies the astrologers offer are unusually concrete. Tate tells VICE the medicine is 'pure, naked honesty' — dropping the little white lies that keep everyone comfortable for the length of the retrograde, and choosing intimacy over avoidance with yourself and others.
She even suggests picking one week of the retrograde to address every thought you have and act on the patterns you uncover.
Hale's guidance at YourTango is equally specific: Scorpio should not sign significant contracts or make sudden decisions about relationships, Taurus should wait 24 hours before responding to triggers, and Leo should let go of being right in favor of being happy.
What Comes Next
The week ahead has a clear arc. YourTango notes Venus re-enters Libra on October 25, easing part of the pressure on Scorpio, and Hale promises that by the time the week ends, life will be much better for the signs she highlights.
Meanwhile, The Economic Times' daily horoscope for October 19 frames the immediate moment through a Capricorn Moon favoring steady action, clear communication and realistic planning, with Navratri closing and Dussehra arriving October 20 — a festival-season backdrop many readers will use to reassess priorities before the retrograde fully lands on the 24th.
