Powderfinger have unveiled 18 Australian reunion shows for September–October 2027, staged under a stadium-sized travelling big top across six cities.

The Comeback Is Real: 18 Shows in Six Cities

Powderfinger have confirmed their first full-scale Australian tour since their 2010 farewell, announcing 18 shows across September and October 2027. The Brisbane band will open with four hometown nights at Brisbane Showgrounds from Friday 3 September, then move through Cairns, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne, closing with four shows at Melbourne Park Oval ending 30 October. The run visits only Friday and Saturday nights — a schedule Yahoo News notes mirrors the one Oasis used on their recent world tour. All five members — Bernard Fanning, Darren Middleton, Ian Haug, Jon Coghill and John Collins — are on board for the reunion.

A Stadium-Sized Big Top, Not Arenas

Rather than booking arenas, the band will stage every show inside a massive travelling big top tent, described as part festival, part spectacle and part rock 'n' roll circus. Blunt Magazine reports the custom-built structure holds up to 13,000 fans per show, while ABC notes the venues are outdoor central-city sites like Brisbane Showgrounds, The Domain in Sydney and Ellis Park in Adelaide. Both seated and standing options will be offered, alongside curated food and drink, designed to bring thousands of fans together under one enormous roof.

Why Now, After 17 Years

In a joint statement, the band said they were 'absolutely ecstatic to be coming together to play again' but that years of suggestions to reunite 'never felt quite right or lined up for all of us' until now. They emphasised bringing together long-term fans and newer ones — including their own children, who were too young to see them play — 'for a special run of shows around the country next year.' Rolling Stone Australia reports the announcement followed weeks of cryptic clues, including billboards, an Instagram account referencing '(Return of) the Electric Horseman' from 1996's Double Allergic, and numbers nodding to their seven albums and 18 ARIA Awards.

Aussie Supports, Homeless Charity, Hottest 100 Legacy

Powderfinger will personally curate an all-Australian lineup of support acts, rotating established and emerging artists across the tour, with a major announcement expected during AusMusic Month in November. Music Feeds reports the band is also making backing crews, managers and creatives a focus, and the tour will partner with Mission Australia to raise funds for Australians experiencing homelessness. The catalogue case is strong: five ARIA #1 albums, 18 ARIA Awards, 22 triple j Hottest 100 appearances with two wins, and 'My Happiness' voted sixth best Australian song of all time by triple j listeners in 2025, per Yahoo News.

Tickets: Presales Start Wednesday, General Sale 19 October

Ticketing opens in stages: Artist and Telstra presales begin Wednesday 14 October, Live Nation presales Friday 16 October, and general public onsale Monday 19 October, with staggered local times per city — 10am AEST for Brisbane and 1pm AEDT for Sydney among them. All shows are All Ages, with under-18s requiring an accompanying responsible adult holding a valid ticket. Blunt Magazine points fans to powderfinger.com for presale signups, and fans can also catch an exclusive interview with all five members in The Big Issue, on sale Tuesday 13 October, according to Music Feeds.

What It Means for Australian Rock

The stakes are high for a band whose 2010 Sunsets Farewell Tour drew more than 300,000 fans, ending with their final show on 13 November 2010, as Music Feeds recounts. Since the split, frontman Bernard Fanning built a solo career and bassist John Collins opened two of Brisbane's largest live music venues, Yahoo News notes, while the band's catalogue never left the culture. ABC's Dan Condon frames these as the group's first proper shows since 2010, and the big-top concept — plus the all-Aussie support pledge — positions the reunion as a shot in the arm for the wider Australian live music ecosystem, not just nostalgia.
