Two World Records Fall in One Night in Zurich

Alison dos Santos, the 2022 world champion, stormed to victory in the men's 400m hurdles in 45.80 seconds, taking 0.14 off the previous world record of 45.94 set by Norway's Karsten Warholm at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021. Less than 40 minutes after dos Santos made history, Olympic champion Masai Russell produced a flawless run over the barriers to stop the clock at 12.09 seconds in the women's 100m hurdles, taking 0.03 off the previous world record of 12.12 set by Nigeria's Tobi Amusan at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. Amusan, the world record-holder heading into the race, finished second in a season's best of 12.23, with European champion Nadine Visser third in 12.34.
