Legal AI startup Legora raised a $550 million Series E at an $8.8 billion valuation, passing $200 million in ARR as its race with Harvey intensifies.

What Happened

Legal AI startup Legora announced a $550 million Series E round that values the company at $8.8 billion post-money. TechCrunch reports the round was led by Atreides Management, with participation from Baron Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners, General Catalyst and Menlo, among others.

Tech Funding News adds new investors including Capital Research, Fidelity Management & Research and Glade Brook Capital Partners, alongside existing backers such as Accel, Benchmark, ICONIQ, Insight Partners, Salesforce Ventures and Sands Capital.

The company says the capital will fund expansion across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Why It's Surprising

The valuation jump is striking in speed: PYMNTS notes the $8.8 billion figure is up from $5.6 billion just seven months earlier, when Legora raised a $550 million Series D in March 2026.

Tech Funding News traces the trajectory further back — an $80 million Series B at a $675 million valuation in 2025, a $150 million Series C at $1.8 billion, and a Series D later expanded to $600 million with Nvidia's venture arm and Atlassian joining.

Doubling a valuation in half a year, at this size, is a rare reversal of the broader AI-funding caution narrative.

The Evidence: ARR at $200M

Legora's revenue growth is the core of the case. According to PYMNTS, the company went from $1 million to $100 million in annual recurring revenue in under 18 months, then added another $100 million in less than six months, putting ARR at $200 million today.

That mirrors — and matches — its chief rival: TechCrunch reports competitor Harvey disclosed over $200 million in ARR back in March.

CFO David Eckstein told Tech Funding News the company wants every ARR dollar to be durable, citing healthy gross margins, high retention and a cost structure that strengthens with scale.

The Harvey Rivalry

The raise lands a month after Harvey — Legora's biggest competitor — announced its own $550 million raise at a $15.5 billion valuation, according to TechCrunch, making the two legal AI leaders nearly inseparable in deal size but far apart in valuation.

Tech Funding News also names other challengers: Norm Ai raised $120 million for regulated-industry AI agents and European startup Lexroom took $50 million in Series B funding.

Legora's scale edge is adoption breadth: PYMNTS reports 140,000 legal professionals at 2,400 law firms and in-house teams across 80 markets use its platform.

The Stakes

Legora positions itself as an agentic operating system for lawyers — CEO Max Junestrand argues AI is changing the lawyer's role and reshaping how law firms and in-house teams are organized.

The market tailwind is real: Tech Funding News cites Thomson Reuters' 2025 report showing generative AI adoption among surveyed legal organizations rose from 14% in 2024 to 26% in 2025.

But the same report stresses that data security, accuracy, regulatory compliance and demonstrable ROI will decide whether rapid adoption becomes sustainable revenue — the bar Atreides' Gavin Baker called high for legal software.

What Comes Next

The company says fresh capital will fund North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific expansion and deepen the Legora aOS platform with new products including agentic intake, horizon scanning and legal research, per PYMNTS.

Founded in 2023 by Max Junestrand and Sigge Labor, Legora launched its platform in October 2024 and now employs more than 1,000 people across 18 offices, Tech Funding News reports.
