Lou Gramm, 76, says his current North American tour will be his last, ending his 54-year rock career.

The Voice of Foreigner Calls It a Career

Lou Gramm, the 76-year-old former Foreigner frontman, has confirmed that his current North American run will be his last, according to mlive.com and Yahoo.

The singer first announced in 2025 that this would be his final year on tour, and he has since reiterated that the end of the current run will mark the end of his time onstage.

After more than 54 years in music — a span he says includes his pre-Foreigner band Black Sheep — Gramm is choosing to step away rather than let age decide for him.

Why He Is Leaving While He Can Still Sing

Gramm told mlive.com he feels fortunate that at his age he can still sing and hit the notes, but does not want to reach the point where he is faking it or lowering the key two steps to perform a song.

In his words, quoted by mlive.com, he wants to go out with a bang after what he considers a high point: this summer tour and finally getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

He also told Ultimate Classic Rock, as cited by mlive.com, that he has done all there is to do, with inductions into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame counting as huge milestones.

Life Off the Road: Family, Friends and Cars

Both mlive.com and Yahoo report the same personal reasons behind the retirement: Gramm wants more time with his older children and his younger child, more time playing with his cars while he is still capable of driving, and the chance to stay off the road and enjoy his home, surroundings, family and friends.

Per mlive.com, he said family, friends and home are things he has had to sacrifice for over 50 years. Yahoo frames the departure the same way: he can still hit the notes, but wants to leave the road before that changes.

Parting Words on the Foreigner He Leaves Behind

Gramm has been touring with his solo band and has also reunited with Foreigner for special appearances, mlive.com reports.

He told Ultimate Classic Rock, as quoted by mlive.com, that he has been enjoying the shows a lot, calling the current band excellent and saying they portray the songs in a way an original member would be proud to play along with — close enough to the originals that no one asks where a part went.

What comes next is simply the final shows of the North American run, which Gramm told mlive.com he views as the summer tour that lets him go out with a bang.
