Cynthia Erivo revealed at her Hollywood Bowl concert that Kylie Minogue, Jonathan Groff and Catherine Tate have joined the 'Bad Fairies' voice cast.
What Happened at the Hollywood Bowl
Cynthia Erivo announced the new casting herself during *Let Me Sing to You*, her one-night-only concert at the Hollywood Bowl on October 15, 2026.
According to Deadline, she revealed live on stage that Kylie Minogue, Jonathan Groff and Catherine Tate have joined her in the Warner Bros./Locksmith animated musical comedy.
Per Variety and Animation Magazine, the second half of the show opened with an orchestral piece built on "Hard to Believe," Jayne's song from the film, before Erivo introduced Groff and Tate and then revealed a final surprise: Minogue, seated in the audience, was the latest cast member.
Who Plays Which Fairy
Minogue will voice Clowder, the Cat Witch; Groff will voice Robin Goodfellow; and Tate will voice the Fairy Gothmother. They join Erivo, who leads the film as Jayne Staplegun, a trailblazing fairy whose defiant streak sparks a rebellion, as Playbill describes her.
The previously announced cast also includes Ncuti Gatwa as Butterwort, Serrana Su-Ling Bliss as Fei Chang, James Acaster as Stickers and Dee Bradley Baker as Groundbeef.
Director Megan Nicole Dong said Clowder needed to be "impossibly glamorous and hilariously chaotic in the same breath, and Kylie was always the dream."
A Stage-Filled Roster
The reveal is notable to theater fans for its pedigree. Groff won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for *Merrily We Roll Along* and originated King George III in *Hamilton*, per Animation Magazine.
Tate, whom Playbill notes as a West End *Oh, Mary!* star, is known for *The Catherine Tate Show* and Donna Noble in *Doctor Who*. Erivo is a Grammy, Emmy and Tony winner and three-time Oscar nominee.
Behind the music sit Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss of *Six: The Musical* writing songs, with Isabella "Machine" Summers scoring and Ian Eisendrath as executive music producer.
Why the Live Reveal Matters
The announcement method was as surprising as the news itself: rather than a press release, the casting broke from a concert stage, in Erivo's own voice, with the audience hearing her character's song first. Warner Bros.
Pictures Animation president Bill Damaschke said there was "no better way to share this news than from the Hollywood Bowl stage in her voice," calling the assembled cast "as bold and joyful as the film itself."
Locksmith CEO Natalie Fischer said Erivo's voice has been "the soul of this film" since she signed on.
What the Outlets Report
The casting is corroborated across Deadline, Variety, Playbill, TheWrap, Animation Magazine and a Business Wire release carried by FinancialContent, which all name the same roles and the same Hollywood Bowl announcement.
Production is underway in London, with DNEG Animation as digital partner, and directors Dong and Staphylas said animators are building on the actors' instincts and comic timing.
What Comes Next
*Bad Fairies* will be the first feature released under the first-look deal between Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation, the studio behind *Ron's Gone Wrong*, with a theatrical debut via Warner Bros.
Pictures in May 2027. Locksmith is also producing *The Lunar Chronicles*, with its first installment due November 3, 2028.
As Radio Times points out, the new trio all share *Doctor Who* connections — Tate as Donna Noble, Groff as Rogue in 2024, and Minogue as Astrid Peth in the 2007 special "Voyage of the Damned" — and audiences will meet their fairies "next May," Fischer said.
