Netflix is giving comedian Robby Hoffman a second hour in 2027, following her John Mulaney–directed debut 'Wake Up,' per three trade outlets.

Netflix Doubles Down on Hoffman

Robby Hoffman is returning to Netflix with another stand-up special, premiering sometime in 2027. According to Variety, the hour will mark Hoffman's second for the streamer, following 2025's "Robby Hoffman: Wake Up," which was directed by John Mulaney and released globally last December. Rotten Science, the stand-up production house run by Matthew Vaughan, will produce the outing, per the trades.

Why a Second Hour This Fast Matters

The turnaround is the surprising part: Variety reports the deal was announced roughly a year after "Wake Up" premiered in December 2025, a quick re-up for a comedian who was named one of Variety's 10 Comics to Watch in 2025 and one of Deadline's Comics Who Won 2025. The trades describe Netflix as clearly high on Hoffman, who previously showcased on Verified Stand-Up, wrote on "Workin' Moms," appeared on "Everybody's Live with John Mulaney," and headlined Netflix Is a Joke Fest. Outlets have compared her observational wit and riled-up kvetching to a young, queer Larry David.

The Evidence: Mulaney's Praise and a Breakout Year

The case for Hoffman is best made by her collaborators. The Hollywood Reporter recalls Mulaney calling her a "total original" and likening her debut to the late Sam Kinison — "someone who you're, like, 'I've never heard of a comedian like this. I've never seen anyone this unafraid.'" He added that when she opened for him in San Diego, "she never adjusted her act for anyone." Variety quotes his earlier line: "No one has owned a stage like her since James Brown." THR also notes "Wake Up" covered her ex-Hasidic upbringing, gender identity, and Hollywood success, with Hoffman calling complaining "a catharsis."

The Stakes for an Ex-Hasidic Comic on the Rise

Per Deadline, Hoffman is a queer ex-Hasidic comic from Brooklyn beloved for her intense, direct style, who began as a writer and won a 2019 Daytime Emmy for PBS's "Odd Squad" before her first special, "I'm Nervous," debuted on CraveTV. Outside stand-up, she earned an Emmy nomination for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series for playing Randi on the last two seasons of HBO's "Hacks," per Variety. She also appears in HBO's Steve Carell comedy "Rooster" and starred opposite Michelle Williams in FX's "Dying for Sex," and hosts the podcast "Too Far with Robby Hoffman."

What Comes Next

Meanwhile, Hoffman is developing "UnEntitled," an HBO series she will write, executive produce, and star in, Deadline and Variety report. Between a second Netflix hour, a starring HBO vehicle, and her "Rooster" role, 2027 is shaping up as the year her streaming bet pays off on multiple fronts.
