Verizon confirmed a $10 monthly fee for Apple's iPhone Handoff, twice the $5 T-Mobile already charges, while AT&T has no plans to offer the feature.
What Happened: Verizon Puts a Price on Handoff
Verizon has confirmed it will charge $10 per month for iPhone Handoff, the iOS 27 feature that lets users share a single phone number across two iPhones.
The pricing appeared in the carrier's iPhone Duo announcement, which also confirmed the feature will work with the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro models on compatible iPhones running iOS 27.
Why It Is Surprising: Double T-Mobile's Price
The surprise is the premium: T-Mobile already supports iPhone Handoff and charges just $5 a month for the same service, so Verizon's announced rate is exactly twice as much. For the identical iOS 27 feature, that works out to $120 versus $60 over twelve months.
Apple also previously said Verizon would adopt the feature before the end of the year, yet its announcement still lists support as 'coming soon' with no launch date.
The Evidence: Carrier Lineup Confirmed
The details are consistent across multiple outlets. According to 9to5Mac, T-Mobile confirmed its $5 monthly fee shortly after Apple's 'Surprise and Shine' event, while Deutsche Telekom offers Handoff through its existing MultiSIM service at €6.95 per month.
According to MacRumors, UK carrier EE will soon support the feature, giving it free on the Full Works Plus plan and £5 per month otherwise. The same outlet reports AT&T has signaled no imminent plans to support Handoff.
How the Feature Actually Works
iPhone Handoff lets one eSIM number live on two iPhones, but only one handset can be actively using the number at any given time.
Users switch primary devices by simply unlocking the phone they want to use, seeing a 'Switched to this iPhone' message while calls, messages and Find My move over automatically.
Setup requires both devices to run iOS 27 and share the same Apple ID, with transfer handled through Settings under Cellular or Add eSIM.
The Stakes for iPhone Duo Buyers
According to Zeera Wireless, the advertised rates are add-on service costs on top of the main mobile plan, and taxes and fees can raise the real bill.
The outlet also notes that T-Mobile's offer is limited to eligible postpaid consumer or sole proprietor accounts, so headline pricing does not guarantee every account can enroll.
What Comes Next: Launch Date and Choice
Verizon has confirmed pricing but not a live enrollment date, so customers pairing an iPhone Duo with a Pro will need to check when their line qualifies. Apple had previously said Verizon and EE would follow T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom before the end of the year.
Buyers deciding between carriers should compare total plan costs, since a $5 Handoff saving could vanish if a replacement main plan costs more each month.
