BTS opened Santiago's Estadio Nacional after Chile reversed its July venue refusal, as lead single 'SWIM' nears 1 billion Spotify streams.

Santiago opens after a reversal

The same day BigHit Music announced 'Arirang' had passed 5 billion Spotify streams, BTS opened the first of three nights at Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile, according to Korea Portal.

Each night is expected to draw more than 48,000 people, and the dates are the group's first in Chile since the Wings Tour in March 2017.

The stop nearly did not happen: Korea Portal reports Chile's National Sports Institute refused the stadium in early July, citing a 360-degree stage that would put roughly 600 tons on the pitch.

Fans marched, then the government caved

The reversal is the part fans will talk about. Korea Portal reports that fans marched in Santiago on July 5 under signs reading "BTS to the National Stadium," and that Edaily reported on July 23 that the government approved the shows after the promoter changed its plans.

The Latin American routing tracks where the album's streams come from: Korea Portal cites Luminate data reported by Variety India counting 3.8 billion 'Arirang' streams across Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music from March 20 to May 14, with Latin America producing 27 percent — the largest share of any region.

'SWIM' closing on a billion

BigHit Music's milestone announcement also flagged the next number to watch: lead single "SWIM" is approaching 1 billion Spotify streams, per Music Business Worldwide.

The label says all 14 tracks on 'Arirang' have now cleared 200 million streams each — including No. 29, built solely from the sound of the Sacred Bell of Great King Seongdeok from Korea's Silla Dynasty, per Music Business Worldwide.

The album opened with more than 110 million first-day Spotify streams on March 20, with "SWIM" at No. 1 on roughly 14 million streams.

The Latin leg rolls on

Korea Portal reports BTS played Bogotá on October 2 and 3 and Lima on October 7, 9 and 10, where BigHit counted about 151,500 fans across three shows. Santiago continues October 16 and 17, before Buenos Aires on October 21, 23 and 24 and São Paulo on October 28, 30 and 31.

With Latin America confirmed by Korea Portal as the album's biggest streaming region, the stadium leg is a test of whether that audience converts to live demand at a scale the region has rarely staged.

Grammy boycott hangs over the run

Female First reports the band's members are boycotting the 2027 Grammys, saying the new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category's language requirement boxed artists in rather than celebrating them, and that all seven posted an identical statement arguing songs should be judged on impact, not geography or language.

Music Business Worldwide notes 'Arirang' will not be in contention, Stray Kids also did not submit, and the Academy confirmed the category will go ahead at the 69th Grammys, whose nominations are announced November 16.
