Representatives confirmed 'Breaking Bad' star RJ Mitte died by suicide at 34, as Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Dean Norris shared tributes.

Cause of Death Confirmed a Day After the News Broke

A representative for RJ Mitte confirmed to Fox News Digital that the 'Breaking Bad' actor died by suicide, stating plainly, 'Sadly, we can confirm that suicide was the cause of death.'

Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. across all five seasons of the AMC series and appeared in 56 episodes, died Monday at his home in Brownsville, Texas, at age 34.

According to Fox News Digital, authorities said an autopsy would be conducted, and the Cameron County Justice of the Peace had previously said one was planned.

The Times of India reports, citing AP, that the Brownsville Police Department received a call at 12:50 pm local time and that the cause and manner of death remain pending amid an ongoing investigation.

If you or someone you know is struggling, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline can be reached by calling or texting 988.

Cranston's Tribute and the Lunch That Never Happened

Bryan Cranston, who played Mitte's on-screen father Walter White, shared an emotional Instagram tribute opening, 'I'm in deep despair as I write this tonight.'

Cranston recalled meeting Mitte at 14 when he was cast as Walter White Jr., writing that the pilot was shot in February 2007 and that 'little by little we watched him grow into a really fine actor.'

According to Deadline, Cranston praised how Mitte, born with cerebral palsy, never allowed the condition to be an excuse and met the demanding shooting schedule with determination. The most personal detail: the two had been texting just weeks earlier to arrange lunch.

'I don't know if that lunch would have changed his future… But I do know that I loved him,' Cranston wrote, closing with 'I'll miss you, son' and a plea for anyone contemplating suicide to call 988.

The Cast Speaks: Paul, Norris and the Wider Community

Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman, told The Hollywood Reporter he was 'at a loss' and heartbroken, adding, 'RJ, I love you my friend. You will be missed.

And to whoever happens to be reading this, please know you are loved, and you are not alone.' Dean Norris, who played Hank Schrader, wrote on X that though Mitte didn't play his TV son, he 'always looked out for him as a young kid on set,' calling him 'a sweetheart of a young man.'

Marlee Matlin, his 'Switched at Birth' co-star, wrote on X, 'My heart is shattered. There will never be another like RJ Mitte.'

The Times of India also notes DC Studios head James Gunn said on Threads that 'RJ was a really sweet guy.'

Why the Loss Stunned a Fandom Two Decades On

Almost 20 years after 'Breaking Bad' began, Mitte's death lands with unusual force because the audience watched him grow up on screen — learning to drive, renaming himself 'Flynn,' and gradually distancing himself from his father, as Vulture recounts over the show's five-season run from 2008 to 2013.

Deadline notes the younger White only learned his father's secret near the end of the final season, in the heartbreaking 'Ozymandias' episode. For fans, the line between Walt Jr. and the actor who played him was often blurry, because Mitte drew so directly on his own experience with cerebral palsy.

Comic Basics reports he had won a SAG Award in 2014 as part of the show's ensemble and was engaged to Kennedy Suarez while promoting a new film, 'Talking to Strangers' — details that deepened the shock for followers of his career.

His Final Interview and the Platform He Valued Most

Days before his death, Mitte appeared on 'The Joe Vulpis Podcast' in an episode released October 5, where he reflected on his career and approach to life. 'I live life to the fullest.

I always try. I have a very finite amount of time,' he said, according to Fox News Digital.

He also called the greatest gift of 'Breaking Bad' the platform it gave him: 'That's really the greatest thing that 'Breaking Bad' has given me, is to be able to lend my voice to causes that make a meaningful impact that changes people's lives.'

India Today reports that in the episode he spoke fondly of Cranston and Anna Gunn, recalling how the set stayed light-hearted between takes despite the show's dark themes. He called his greatest achievement 'giving back' through his foundation work.

Advocacy Legacy and What Comes Next

Beyond acting, Mitte served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's and as president of The Mitte Foundation, which supports philanthropic efforts and community initiatives, his representatives said in the statement carried by Fox News Digital.

He also appeared in 'Switched at Birth,' 'The Guardians of Justice,' 'Hannah Montana' and 'Everybody Hates Chris.' An autopsy is expected in the coming days, and Cameron County officials said an investigation is ongoing, per the Times of India.

His representatives' statement emphasized that he used his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities — the work Cranston and others say defined him as much as the role that made him famous.
