Apple unveiled the $299 HomeView hub with Siri AI plus a Home Collection of cameras, locks and thermostats made with LG and Schneider.
HomeView goes official at $299
HomeView pairs a 7-inch Liquid Retina display with a domed speaker base, supports FaceTime with Center Stage, runs Apple Music and Podcasts, and works as a smart home dashboard for cameras, thermostats, lights and locks.
Pre-orders opened today, with availability beginning November 13 in the U.S. and several other countries.
One screen, six personal households
The feature Apple is betting on is per-person personalization: HomeView recognizes up to six users by face and switches from a shared household screen to that person's own Home Screen, apps and widgets, surfacing private content from Messages, Photos, Calendar, Reminders and Find My.
Siri AI on the device is built to be conversational with broad world knowledge, and when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad it draws on personal context — calendar events, messages, playlists — with conversations carrying over to the Siri app on other devices via iCloud.
Brightness ranges from 500 nits in a sunlit room down to 0.3 nits for a nightstand.
The surprise: Apple didn't build it alone
The genuinely unexpected move in the announcement is Apple Home Collection: a line of smart locks, video doorbells, security cameras, thermostats and sensors designed in collaboration with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, a company that has long insisted on building its own smart home accessories.
TechCrunch notes the partnership could help Apple compete against established players Amazon Ring and Google Nest, and Engadget reports the devices were co-designed from scratch, not rebadged existing products. The collection launches in December, sold first through the Apple store.
UWB unlock and camera pricing
Standout details from the collection: TechCrunch reports the $349.95 smart deadbolt supports ultra-wideband, letting it recognize an authorized user's iPhone or Apple Watch approaching and unlock automatically, and Engadget adds it has a nine-digit keypad fallback.
Engadget lists the wired video doorbell at $349 with a downward-facing camera to catch deliveries on the floor, indoor cameras and thermostats at $199, an outdoor camera from $329 and a floodlight camera at $399.
Engadget notes cameras and the doorbell work only with Apple products, while other devices also support Matter, and camera data is end-to-end encrypted.
Stakes: a pricier ecosystem play
Business Insider frames HomeView as Apple officially entering a new product category, arguing a working HomeView makes it harder for a consumer to 'break up with Apple' for Amazon, Google or Samsung — the accessories deepen ecosystem lock-in beyond HomeKit's third-party approach.
There are trade-offs to note: CNBC reports the new Apple TV 4K jumped from $199 to $299 and the HomePod Mini rose from $129 to $149 amid memory costs Apple's prior leadership called unsustainable, and Cult of Mac reports HomeView won't initially launch in the European Union because Siri AI isn't yet available there in iOS.
What comes next
Gizmodo's Raymond Wong was at the 'Welcome Home' experience with a hands-on promised shortly, so early verdicts on whether the hub justifies counter space are imminent. The open question Cult of Mac poses is who HomeView is actually for — but Apple wants to own the answer before rivals do.
