WWD reports Dior's Holiday 2026 Médaillon Lip Balm phone sticker sold out on Dior's site in hours and is being compared to Rhode's Lip Case.
What happened: Dior turns a lip balm into a phone accessory
According to WWD, Dior has launched a premium answer to Rhode's internet-breaking Lip Case: the Holiday Gift 2026 Edition Médaillon Lip Balm, a $95 gilded case topped with a bow and a frame-like border that adheres to the back of your phone, letting you reapply the brand's hydrating balm on the go.
WWD reports that the product sold out in hours directly on Dior's own site, but remains in stock at Ulta, Nordstrom (in-store pickup only) and Dillard's. The balm inside is the universally flattering Crystal Pink shade with a glittery, holiday-ready finish, housed in gift-ready packaging.
Why it's surprising: a status symbol you stick on your iPhone
The surprise is how explicitly Dior is selling the object as a status symbol rather than a cosmetic.
WWD quotes Anne-Liese Prem, head of cultural insights and trends at agency Loop, calling it on LinkedIn "Gen Z marketing at its finest — turning beauty objects into phone accessories, everyday objects into status symbols, and your iPhone into a beauty billboard."
Content creators have reportedly dubbed it the "Porsche of lip balms," saying it has the beauty world "in a chokehold." The design carries what WWD describes as a "Regency Romance" aesthetic, the same one from Jonathan Anderson's Dior men's spring/summer 2026 runway.
The evidence: sellouts, stock lists and a locket hack
Both WWD and Yahoo's syndicated shopping write-up list the same sellout picture: out of stock on dior.com, available at Ulta — where WWD says more than 300 shoppers bought it within a few hours — at Nordstrom for in-store pickup, and at Dillard's.
WWD also details the attachment steps Dior suggests: peel the adhesive backing, align the medallion with the template and press, then stick it onto the phone. Fans have found a second use, according to WWD: thread a gold chain through the bow to repurpose the medallion as a Dior locket.
Inside the balm — and what comes next
Beyond the ornament, WWD describes a genuinely sensorial formula: smooth, nourishing and sensitive-skin-friendly, infused with jojoba seed oil, sweet almond oil, beeswax and rice bran wax, with a dreamy scent and what Dior calls "high-shine frosted lips."
It can be applied with fingers or a dedicated lip brush. With the holiday gifting season ahead and dior.com already sold out, the fight is now among retailers — Ulta, Nordstrom and Dillard's — for the shoppers WWD says are vying for the little luxury.
