Dealer Tech Crashes Rare Hellcat, Then Offers Replacement

On July 3, Robert Hill dropped his 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Jailbreak Last Call Edition at Matt Bowers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for routine maintenance. Despite this, a dealership employee allegedly took the 717-horsepower muscle car for a joyride and crashed it. Carscoops reports that Hill waited six hours in the waiting room before discovering that an "unqualified lube tech" had wrecked the vehicle. The crash was severe enough for the Challenger to be declared a total loss, with deployed airbags and extensive front-end damage.

Handing over a car for a simple oil change should be among the safest automotive transactions, but this incident ended with a limited-production, collectible vehicle destroyed. What is striking is the contrast between the routine nature of the visit and the catastrophic outcome: a 717-horsepower, rear-wheel-drive supercharged V8 was taken out by someone without apparent qualification. Hill shared images on Facebook showing the Challenger strapped to a trailer with its front end destroyed.
