Sarah J. Maas's 'A Court of Splintered Harmony' sold 1.7 million copies on its Oct. 27 release day, a 600% jump over Book 5's debut.
A Record-Breaking Return to Prythian
Fans finally returned to Prythian this week as Sarah J. Maas published 'A Court of Splintered Harmony,' the sixth installment in her blockbuster romantasy series, on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
According to Variety, the novel sold 1.7 million copies on release day alone, breaking Maas' own record — a figure up 600% from the debut-day sales of 2021's 'A Court of Silver Flames,' the previous book in the series.
Variety reports the total counts preorders and Day 1 sales worldwide for English-language print and ebook editions across the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Australia, and does not include audiobooks or translated editions.
Billboard, which also covered the debut, notes the wait since Book 5 lasted five full years.
Why the Numbers Stunned Even Maas
The scale of the debut is what makes this a publishing event rather than a routine bestseller.
Variety reports the book is tracking to be the largest release of the year, and that Maas' team says the author has now sold more than 100 million books worldwide across her three franchises: 'A Court of Thorns and Roses,' 'Throne of Glass' and 'Crescent City.'
"To see how much these books mean to so many people and the way readers have shown up for this one really blows my mind," Maas told Variety in a statement.
Billboard adds that early reader reactions have been enthusiastic, with fans saying they "need more now" — sentiment amplified by a fandom that has dominated BookTok conversations during the five-year gap between installments.
Merch, Midnight Parties and a Marketing Blitz
Variety reports the record came on the heels of an unusually large campaign: dozens of brands, from Funko to For Love & Lemons, released official 'ACOTAR'-inspired merch created in collaboration with Maas, while 2,000 midnight release parties were held globally on Tuesday.
The commercial machine is in full view at retail, too — Billboard notes the hardcover is listed around $22, Book 7 is available to preorder at roughly $38, and a five-book paperback box set is being steeply discounted to catch up new readers.
Billboard also highlights dramatized full-cast GraphicAudio adaptations of the existing novels as another way fans experience the Night Court.
For anyone new to the series, Billboard summarizes the premise: huntress Feyre Archeron, a faerie world of seven courts, and romance-heavy high fantasy inspired by fairy tales like 'Beauty and the Beast.'
The Valkyrie Cycle — and a Very Fast Book 7
Unlike the long gap before this release, the next chapter arrives quickly: Billboard reports 'A Court of Forgotten Melody,' the seventh installment, is set for Jan. 12, 2027 — less than three months after Book 6.
Variety explains the two books make up 'The Valkyrie Cycle: Movement I' and 'Movements II and III,' to be followed by an untitled third novel concluding the four-part cycle.
Per Billboard, the publisher's synopsis says Book 6 follows a growing threat from Koschei the Deathless that tests Prythian's fragile alliances, continuing the story of sisters Feyre, Nesta and Elain Archeron.
One adaptation note fans still discuss: Variety reports the Hulu and 20th Television TV series developed with Ronald D. Moore was scrapped in February 2025 over creative differences, with rights reverting to Maas.
