An astrologer dubbed 2026's Halloween sky the "El Nino of Halloween," citing double retrogrades and rare geometry.
A 'Double Whammy' Retrograde Caps Scorpio Season
Halloween 2026 lands in Scorpio season — which The Independent notes astrologers widely consider the zodiac's 'spookiest' sign, ruled by Pluto, governor of transformation and the underworld.
According to The Independent, LA-based astrologer and psychologist Dr Michael Lennox calls this year's celestial line-up the 'El Nino of Halloween,' a double whammy of Mercury and Venus retrogrades that he says spells trouble for travel plans, communication mix-ups, and getting back with exes.
Cosmopolitan's Halloween horoscope adds that the day opens with the Moon in Cancer connecting with Mercury retrograde in Scorpio, which it says strengthens psychic abilities before the Moon later 'crashes' into Venus retrograde in Libra.
The retrogrades both turn direct on 13 November, so fans are advised not to rush into new ventures or romances until then.
Why This Year's Cosmic Weather Is Called 'Unprecedented'
The surprise for devoted horoscope readers is not just the retrogrades but the geometry around them.
The Independent reports Lennox describing a rare two-year grand sextile — a web of sextiles and trines — as 'unprecedented' planetary geometry that began in 2025 and peaked in July but is still very much active.
'The two-year grand sextile is reflecting a world that is changing at a revolutionary pace,' Lennox tells The Independent, adding 'we ain't seen nothing yet.'
He goes further, calling this 'the most difficult year of change that anybody has ever lived through in living memory,' which he says makes everything else astrologically 'much bigger and deeper and more powerful.' AstroTok, per The Independent, cannot get enough of it.
Moon in Cancer Makes Halloween Night Prime Ritual Time
After the spooky full Moon in Taurus on 26 October passed, The Independent reports that Halloween night itself features a waning gibbous Moon in Cancer, which Lennox claims is a powerful time for rituals.
'Cancer is the archetype of the mother and home and tradition, the ideal time for magic in private sacred space,' he says.
Lennox also notes Mercury in Scorpio puts intuition at 'maximum potential,' while the Sun in Scorpio forms a 150-degree inconjunct to Saturn and Neptune — 'like an exit off a highway' — inviting people to let go of outcomes and disbelief.
He adds that Venus opposing Chiron over two months is healing emotional blocks, making it 'a good time' for rituals. Cosmopolitan separately suggests the Moon entering Leo late in the night reminds readers they are 'the star of your own life.'
Sign-by-Sign Guidance — and One Big Warning
Both outlets offer sign-specific readings.
The Independent relays Lennox's ritual advice: fire magic and burning written grievances for Aries, crystals for Taurus (old ones only while Venus is retrograde), automatic writing for Gemini, ancestor altars for Cancer, costume-as-spell affirmations for Leo, potion making for Virgo, aura readings for Libra, and transformative rituals for Scorpio — with Lennox strongly warning Scorpios against 'revenge love potions' because 'it could backfire.'
Cosmopolitan's Halloween horoscope adds its own take: Aries sorting through relationship truths, Cancerians posting the curated selfie their ex will watch, and Pisces enjoying high odds of a Halloween hook-up.
