Roundabout Theatre Company announced that John Turturro, Tony Shalhoub and Tatiana Maslany will star in Eugène Ionesco's *Rhinoceros* at the Todd Haimes Theatre this spring, according to New York Theatre Guide and Deadline.

Turturro plays Bérenger, Shalhoub plays his friend Jean, and Maslany plays Daisy, Bérenger's coworker and love interest. Diane Paulus directs a production built from Derek Prouse's translation, first staged at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge last summer.

Previews begin April 7, 2027, with opening night April 25 and a limited run through June 13, 2027.

The Boston Globe's report frames the move as a Broadway transfer 'albeit with one very big casting change': Paul Giamatti, who appeared alongside Turturro and Maslany in the A.R.T.'s acclaimed production, will not be joining the New York cast.

In his place steps Tony Shalhoub, who the Globe notes was an early A.R.T. member back in 1980, long before 'Monk' made him famous. Roundabout's announcement gave no explanation for Giamatti's absence, so fans of the Cambridge staging will see a substantially reconstituted central trio.

*Rhinoceros* replaces the previously announced revival of *The Full Monty*, which was scheduled to begin performances April 3, 2027 at the same theatre, directed by Leigh Silverman with choreography by Connor Gallagher.

Playbill reports that Roundabout has postponed the David Yazbek and Terrence McNally musical indefinitely due to cast availability, with a press note saying more information on timing will come later.

Deadline notes the revival marks the first time *Rhinoceros* has been seen on Broadway since its 1961 premiere, and the first Ionesco play Roundabout has staged.

The outlet points out that in that landmark 1961 production, the same roles were played by Anne Jackson (Daisy), Zero Mostel (Jean) and Eli Wallach (Bérenger) — Mostel won a Tony and reprised the part in Tom O'Horgan's 1973 film with Gene Wilder.

The casting carries notable resumes.

According to Deadline, Maslany won a 2016 Emmy for *Orphan Black* and last appeared on Broadway in 2023's *Grey House*; Shalhoub won a 2018 Tony for *The Band's Visit*; and Turturro won an Emmy for a *Monk* guest turn and last performed on Broadway in 2003's *Life (x) 3*, per New York Theatre Guide.

Boston Globe's Don Aucoin describes the A.R.T. staging as an acclaimed adaptation in which Bérenger is the only resident who holds onto his humanity, and the Globe reports Turturro and Maslany will reprise their roles exactly as staged in Cambridge.

The creative team carries over from Cambridge: scenic design by Riccardo Hernández, costumes by Anita Yavich, lighting by Jen Schriever, sound by Fitz Patton, special effects by Markus Maurette, and fight direction by Thomas Schall, among others, per Playbill.

As for *The Full Monty*, Broadway News says more information on production timing will be announced at a later date, leaving Roundabout's season with one reopening question still unanswered.
