Disney and TikTok struck a deal giving creators licensed access to Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars scenes plus a new Creator Ambassador Program.
The Deal: Official Disney Assets Come to TikTok
The Walt Disney Company and TikTok announced a new agreement on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, allowing fans to create videos using Disney characters.
According to ABC7 Bay Area, the deal gives TikTok creators access to "memorable scenes and moments from Disney movies and shows," with assets tied to hundreds of films and series from across Disney's brands, including Pixar, Marvel, "Star Wars" and FX.
The resulting short-form content will live on both TikTok and Verts, the new Disney+ vertical video feed, and will be refreshed regularly to keep fan conversations timely. Disney says the rollout begins in the U.S. in the coming months, with other markets intended to follow.
Why This Is a Reversal for a Protective Brand
For a company famous for policing its intellectual property, opening its vault to the platform where fan edits and clips circulate freely is a striking pivot.
According to ABC7 Bay Area, Disney chief marketing and brand officer Asad Ayaz framed the move around fans themselves: "The best storytellers are fans first."
TikTok's global head of entertainment, Dawn Yang, told the outlet the deal brings "the authentic creator expression of the TikTok community to Disney+," arguing creators extend the life of films and shows into conversations fans discover and share.
Rather than fighting creator clips, Disney appears to be channeling them onto its own Disney+ surface.
The Evidence: A Creator Ambassador Program With Rewards
The announcement also introduced the Disney Creator Ambassador Program, which ABC7 Bay Area describes as a joint Disney-TikTok initiative promising participating creators special rewards, increased visibility, access to exclusive events and career development pathways.
Disney told the outlet the tiered program reflects its commitment to building relationships with the next generation of creative talent, with TikTok praised for its care for its creator community.
Creators who opt into the program will see their short-form content featured on both TikTok and Verts on Disney+, giving fan-made videos a place inside the subscription app itself — a notably deeper integration than a hashtag campaign.
Stakes and Timing: Creator Platforms Compete for Talent
The deal lands amid a broader contest for creators' loyalty. For Disney, the strategy bets that creator-made videos refreshed on Verts will engage subscribers more deeply and push them toward more story formats on Disney+, as the company told ABC7 Bay Area.
For creators, the coming months — when the U.S. launch begins — will show whether official assets genuinely level the fan-content playing field or simply deepen Disney's grip on its characters.
