Sony and Oh BiBi canceled the mobile shooter Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble, delisting it November 21 ahead of May 1, 2027 server shutdown.
What Happened: A Flagship Spin-Off Scrapped
Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Oh BiBi announced Friday they have 'made the difficult decision to cease development' of Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble, a fast-paced multiplayer platformer arena shooter built with Insomniac Games and PlayStation Studios.
The game was revealed on November 12, 2025, soft-launched first in the Philippines and Indonesia, and later rolled out to Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, France, Canada and the UK in August. A global launch was planned over the summer, but the company has now reversed course entirely.
Why It's Surprising: Gearing Up Days Earlier
As recently as July, the PlayStation blog said the game was 'gearing up for global launch' after 'a successful testing phase shaped by player feedback,' according to IGN.
The reversal came less than a year to the day after the November 2025 reveal, and Polygon reports the game's reception was mixed at best during soft launch.
For a series this central to PlayStation's identity, being pulled during soft launch rather than after a proper release is an unusually early cut.
The Evidence: Dates, Passes and Refunds
The official statement confirms in-app purchases have been removed, the Super Pass is now free to all players, and Qwark Pass seasons will continue running until shutdown, per Video Games Chronicle. Players are advised to spend any in-game rewards or currency before May 1, 2027.
Polygon notes the game's website carries an in-depth FAQ covering how the shutdown affects rewards, season passes and currency, and IGN reports players seeking refunds are directed to Apple's App Store or Google Play customer support.
The Stakes for the Franchise
The franchise was created in 2002 by Insomniac Games, now better known for Marvel titles like September's Marvel's Wolverine. The last console entry was 2021's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
Polygon reports that while Insomniac has not formally announced a new Ratchet & Clank game, the 2023 Insomniac hack and subsequent leaks indicate the studio was working on a Rift Apart sequel, and no plans have been officially announced since.
The mobile cancellation leaves fans waiting for any official word on the series' console future.
A Trend: Digital and Licensed Games Vanish
Comic Book Resources separately reports that Hotel Transylvania 3: Monsters Overboard, the 2018 Torus Games title published by Outright Games for Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Steam, leaves Steam at the end of December 2026 because its licensing agreement concluded.
Outright Games says players who already own it keep full access.
What Comes Next for Players
Anyone with the game installed can keep playing until May 1, 2027, earning rewards through play and spending them on upgrades, cosmetics, characters and currencies now that purchases are gone.
The dev team's statement thanked the community for playing, sharing feedback and helping shape Ranger Rumble throughout development. For the broader series, the ball sits with Insomniac, whose rumored Rift Apart sequel remains unannounced after the hack leaks, according to Polygon.
