After going 4-8 in his college debut, Belichick needed proof his NFL-built program could translate, and this gritty defensive win — not pretty, but effective — is the most convincing data point yet of his tenure. "I'm just happy for the players. They've worked really hard," Belichick said, per the AP. "This just gives everybody a little bit more belief and we've just got to keep building." The Tar Heels also posted 10 points and 141 total yards in the first quarter under new offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino — more first-quarter yards than they ever had last season, the AP reports.
