Ipsy launched Ipsy Wellness, a quarterly sampling box betting beauty members want wellness products tried before bought amid 69% refusing unsampled.
Ipsy Extends Its Discovery Model Into Wellness
Personal Care Insights reports that beauty subscription service Ipsy has entered the wellness category with Ipsy Wellness, a quarterly sampling program the company describes as the next evolution of its curated discovery platform.
At launch, members can choose from three collections — Skin, Hair, and Total Wellness — each shipping four curated products including supplements, treatments, and tools.
The line-up mixes, as the company puts it, 'emerging and iconic brands': Goli, Sakara, and Apothékary appear at launch, with Lemme, Beam, and Good Bacteria following in 2027.
CEO Galen Smith says members 'are looking for Ipsy to provide the same level of support in wellness that we have provided in beauty for years.'
Why a Sampling-First Play Is the Surprising Bet
What makes the move notable, according to Personal Care Insights, is that Ipsy is betting on trial rather than conversion in a category most shoppers find intimidating.
Even so, 65% said they are likely to explore a new wellness brand or product if Ipsy introduces it — a gap the company says positions discovery as the core of the opportunity.
The quarterly cadence is also deliberate: Personal Care Insights notes wellness products often need more time to show benefits, so the slower format gives members time to build routines before deciding.
Beauty From the Inside Out Is Now Mainstream
The launch rides a wider convergence the outlet traces across the industry.
Personal Care Insights reports that roughly two-thirds of Gen Z and millennials in the US, UK, and Germany have bought functional nutrition products in the past year, and that Ipsy's own Instagram poll found 60% of respondents saying supplements and nutrition, skin and facial tools, and hair and scalp care all play a role in how they approach beauty.
The same report points to fragrance house Vyrao being acquired by Tresalis, IFF pitching its 'MetaMood' scent concept at In-cosmetics, and Target adding drinkable supplement brand Clöud Café after an Ulta Beauty debut as signs that wellness-led beauty is now a lucrative, crowded market.
Retailers Are Betting Big on Curated Wellness Boxes
The wellness-box formula is not unique to Ipsy.
The Oxford Mail reports that Holland & Barrett has launched a £60 Beauty Advent Calendar containing 26 beauty and wellness products it values at more than £266 — a claimed saving of over £206, or around 77% — with 16 full-size items including Antipodes Glow Vitamin C Serum, Weleda Skin Food, Q+A Collagen Body Butter, and OGX Biotin & Collagen Shampoo.
The retailer also launched a £25 Vegan Edit gift set said to be worth over £71, featuring Sukin, Sea Magik, and Q+A products.
Beauty director Vicky Kelly told the Oxford Mail the boxes let customers 'discover new favourites alongside brands they already know and love' — echoing Ipsy's trial-first thesis on the retail shelf.
