Baron Cohen Brings Back Three Characters in New Trailer
The Daily Beast reports that Sacha Baron Cohen, 54, has unveiled new details about his controversial movie 'Ali G: Who Iz I?' in a fresh trailer. Per the outlet, the film features not only Ali G but also two characters from his 2018 Showtime satire 'Who Is America?': Dr. Nira Cain-N'Degeocello, an ultraliberal gender studies professor, and Erran Morad, a retired Israeli Defense Forces colonel and anti-terrorism expert. In the trailer, Baron Cohen appears as Borat to satirically urge viewers not to watch the 'movie film' in cinemas on October 23rd, telling audiences, 'They have been reportings that this film is racist. We have seen it, and sadly it is not.'
Racism Backlash and Baron Cohen's Defiant Response
According to The Daily Beast, the film's first teaser sparked major backlash and allegations of racism, with social media users calling for U.K. theaters to refuse to screen it. The outlet reports that, per media bias organization NewsCord, more than 37,000 fans have joined a campaign asking local theaters to block the film, which centers on the British wannabe hip-hop artist navigating his girlfriend's pregnancy. Baron Cohen is described as knowing the film is risky but unapologetic, tweeting, 'In an age where a comedian's career can be ended by a single un-PC joke, I thought I'd play it safe and bring this guy back.' The movie reaches cinemas on October 23rd.
