Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig — the ex-spouses of former "Good Morning America" hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes — announced their engagement in a People interview published Wednesday, October 21.

"We're very grateful and hopeful," Shue, 59, told People, adding, "I don't know how it happened, but there's a happy ending."

The announcement lands one month after Holmes and Robach quietly married in a private Arkansas ceremony on September 19, a development the county clerk for Washington County confirmed to USA TODAY. Yahoo reports the couple got engaged this past spring after dating roughly three years.

Shue was married to Robach from 2010 to 2023, and Fiebig, an Atlanta-based attorney, married Holmes in 2010 and shares 13-year-old daughter Sabine with him. When Robach and Holmes' workplace romance was exposed in November 2022, both were still legally married.

Page Six, which Yahoo relays, called Shue and Fiebig's pairing "the ultimate plot twist," noting the pair began dating in 2023 after their exes got together.

News, the pair first struck up a friendship in 2022 amid the media frenzy, and their dynamic turned romantic before three years of dating ended in an engagement this past spring. Robach and Holmes' marriage license, meanwhile, was officially recorded on October 13.

The emotional core of the announcement is Shue's unusually candid reflection on his failed marriage. He told People he "had to accept my own part in marriage not working out for me" and that finding the right person "has been an extraordinary gift."

"I had to grow through a lot of pain and a lot of struggle and a lot of humility," he said, framing the lesson as "the magic of love is when you go from a need to giving." In Touch reports Shue connected the journey to family, calling it "the most important project."
