Dolly Parton, who died Aug. 25 at age 80 after what her estate described as a brief battle with cancer at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, was laid to rest in a private Aug. The family has announced no public memorial details, instead asking fans to donate to her Imagination Library literacy program in lieu of flowers.

'From the time I was little, my granny always had a way of making me feel like I was enough,' she wrote, adding, 'Because she couldn't have kids of her own, she always made us feel like we were hers.' She recalled singing with Parton on the 2024 album 'Smoky Mountain DNA: Family, Faith and Fables' as a nervous high school freshman, and said Parton financially supported her beauty schooling — 'She didn't just tell me to chase my dreams, she helped me get there.'

Parton's nephew Bryan Seaver shared in a video message that she had requested a simple burial. 'Dolly was a farmer, just like her daddy. He farmed the soil, she farmed songs and happiness,' he said, explaining she asked to rest 'in a beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.' HELLO! Magazine reports attendees honored her love of color by wearing vibrant outfits rather than traditional mourning black.

The Tennessean covered a tribute show at the Grand Ole Opry House on Saturday, Aug. 29, where Carly Pearce and Jelly Roll performed '9 to 5,' Kathy Mattea sang 'Jolene,' and niece Jada Star performed alongside Dan Tyminski, Molly Tuttle, Ketch Secor, Belle Frantz and Channing Wilson. The show closed with a video of Parton singing 'I Will Always Love You,' while fan cards lined the outside of the Opry House. TODAY.com also reports Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced a partnership to rename Nashville International Airport after Parton.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Entertainment Tonight's one-hour special 'Remembering Dolly: A Rhinestone Life' airs Sunday, Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. PT/ET on CBS, tracing her first ET interview in 1982 to her final conversation decades later. The Hollywood Reporter says it streams live via DirecTV, Fubo, and Hulu + Live TV, with Paramount+ Premium subscribers able to watch same-day and Essential subscribers the next day.
