Two days after 'The Witch' hit shelves, Freida McFadden revealed her next thriller, 'The Sleepwalker,' arrives March 23, 2027.

A surprise reveal, right on schedule

Freida McFadden kept a promise to her readers. On the night of October 8, per Yahoo Creators, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of 'The Housemaid' posted in her fan group, Freida McFadden McFans, saying, "I promised you a surprise today, didn't I? Well, here it is," before linking to the book's new page on Sourcebooks. The reveal came only two days after her latest novel, 'The Witch,' published October 6, meaning fans got a brand-new release and a new title to count down to in the same week. The next book is 'The Sleepwalker,' and Yahoo Creators reports that e-book and audiobook links are still to come.

Samantha's deadly secret

According to Yahoo Creators, citing the Sourcebooks FAQ page, 'The Sleepwalker' follows Samantha, a nurse whose sleepwalking hides a deadly secret. traumatized by a cruel incident as a teenager, she wakes with raw, bleeding fingertips, unexplained bruises and memory gaps — but after twenty years she has learned to control it, the publisher explains. The hook is blunt: "She only kills bad men. At least, that's what she believes..." The publisher describes a woman whose victims are predators and abusers, "or so she tells herself," and sums the book up as "dark, twist-packed, and impossible to put down." Early praise is already in: Yahoo Creators notes Sally Hepworth calls it "genuinely impossible to put down" with "relentless pace."

Preorders, deluxe editions and early reads

Yahoo Creators reports that 'The Sleepwalker' will be released on March 23, 2027, as a hardcover deluxe edition with designed edges, with the cover still to be revealed. Preorder links are already live for the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and Latin America, and McFadden also shared a KindleUnlimited e-book page on Amazon. Signed editions are available for preorder, and Poisoned Pen Press will run 24-hour digital ARC giveaways through NetGalley exclusively for McFans group members in early 2027 — 100 digital ARCs, per the report. Yahoo Creators' writer, a longtime group member, says the group is one of the few online spaces she feels safe in.

Why this announcement matters now

Yahoo Creators frames McFadden as riding a rare wave: Publishers Weekly reported in January that she extended her Sourcebooks partnership through 2028 with three of the top 20 bestselling books of 2025, and she has sold more than six million print books. 'The Housemaid' became a film starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, with a sequel confirmed, and Stephen King, Victoria Beckham and TIME — which named her a 2026 TIME100 honoree, with E L James writing her tribute — are all cited as fans. Meanwhile, the wider trade is anxious about provenance: the Malay Mail reports from the Frankfurt Book Fair that 'human-authored' labeling schemes from Britain, France, Germany and the Authors Guild are gaining ground after AI scandals, with about 200 works stamped in France and roughly 6,500 titles certified in the US. In a climate of author anxiety, a human hit machine announcing another book is notable.
