USDA Recalls 25K Lbs Buffalo Chicken in 5 States

On August 26, 2026, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Boston-based Shanghai Ravioli Corporation is recalling approximately 24,900 pounds of frozen, not-ready-to-eat Buffalo chicken products after discovering they were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. The recall covers two products: Buffalo Chicken Rangoon and Benedetto's Buffalo Chicken Mozzarella Sticks.

The recalled products were shipped to foodservice locations in five New England states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. FSIS said it is concerned that some of the recalled items could still be in foodservice refrigerators or freezers, urging businesses not to serve them and to discard or return them to the place of purchase.

The recall was triggered by FSIS surveillance activities, not by reports of illness. According to FSIS, the products bear false inspection marks with establishment number 'EST. 18004,' which does not have a federal grant of inspection. Yahoo reports this may follow a broader USDA trend of clamping down on imported foods, noting other recent recalls for soup and bacon from Canada.

FSIS has classified this as a Class I recall, meaning there is a reasonable probability that use of the product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death. Food produced without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants that put consumer health and safety at risk. No confirmed illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled products.

The recalled products were produced between July 8, 2025, and June 29, 2026, with sell-by dates from July 8, 2026, through June 29, 2027. Affected items include cardboard boxes containing 100 pieces of 'Buffalo Chicken Rangoon' and boxes containing 120 pieces of 'Benedetto's Buffalo Chicken Mozzarella Stick.' The establishment number 'EST. 18004' appears on the labels.

Businesses in possession of the recalled products should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. According to the en.econostrum.info report, Shanghai Ravioli Corporation listed Jordan Wu, its quality control manager, as the company contact for recall questions. The recall, identified by FSIS as 018-2026, was announced on August 26, 2026, and remained active in the agency's notice.
