US crypto ETFs shed $1.29 billion in the week of October 5–9, the biggest exodus since June, with BlackRock's ETHA driving most of the Ether losses.
Wall Street's ETF money turns tail in a single week
The capital that pushed Bitcoin to its all-time high is now heading for the exits. US spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs recorded $986.3 million in combined net outflows through Thursday, and Friday's numbers pushed the October total past $1 billion, according to Farside Investors data cited by CryptoTicker. Zooming out to every crypto ETF category tracked, $1.29 billion left Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Zcash and Hyperliquid funds during October 5–9 — the largest wave of selling since June. A week earlier, the same five categories had attracted a combined $29.2 million in inflows, making the reversal especially sharp.
The Wednesday shock: $484.9 million out in one session
Bitcoin ETFs lost $678.9 million between Monday and Friday, a sharp reversal from the $241.1 million they attracted the week before. Wednesday alone saw $484.9 million walk out the door — the biggest single-day outflow since June 25 — followed by another $244.1 million on Thursday, per Farside figures reported by Crypto News. The selling was concentrated: Fidelity's FBTC shed $380.3 million and ARK 21Shares' ARKB lost $207.2 million, together accounting for most of the damage. BlackRock's IBIT, the world's largest Bitcoin fund, finished the week almost flat at a $1.1 million inflow after a $207.7 million Wednesday withdrawal erased two strong days of buying.
Ethereum's nine-day bleeding streak is the real alarm
If Bitcoin ETFs had a bad week, Ethereum ETFs are having a bad month. Ether funds have posted net outflows for nine consecutive trading sessions, a streak that began September 29 and has drained roughly $700 million, with October alone accounting for well over half a billion dollars, CryptoTicker reports. One fund dominates: BlackRock's ETHA was responsible for $477.1 million of the week's $542.2 million in Ethereum ETF outflows, roughly 88 percent. Incrypted notes this was the second-largest weekly Ethereum ETF outflow total of 2026, and that the funds posted negative flows across all five sessions. For context, Ethereum ETFs hold around $15.6 billion in net assets versus roughly $105 billion across Bitcoin funds, so a $542 million weekly outflow is a far bigger dent in ETH.
Every crypto ETF category was in the red at once
What makes this week different is breadth. Solana ETFs lost $25 million across five straight negative sessions, most of it from Bitwise's BSOL, according to Crypto News. The Zcash fund ZCSH gave back $30.8 million, on top of $77.6 million the week before, for a two-week bill of $108.4 million, while Hyperliquid products shed $9.4 million. None of these numbers is huge in isolation, but together they mean every crypto ETF category was negative at the same time — something that has not happened since the summer. The lone bright spots were niche: Incrypted reports NEAR ETFs led altcoin inflows with $35.99 million, and XRP funds added $11.31 million even as Bitcoin funds hemorrhaged.
Macro, not crypto, drove the damage — with a Fed hike looming
egamers.io reports the selloff's roots were macro: the 30-year Treasury yield climbed to roughly 5.7 percent on Wednesday, a level last seen in 2002, Brent crude finished near $100 a barrel, and equities pulled back from record highs amid mounting attacks on ships around the Strait of Hormuz. Fed minutes published Wednesday indicate most policymakers expect one more rate increase this year, though CME pricing implies only a 19.4 percent chance of an October hike. The price action followed: Bitcoin slid to a Thursday low around $80,427 before bouncing above $82,000, and about $429 million in derivatives positions were liquidated over 24 hours, 87.5 percent of them longs, per egamers.io.
One green Friday — and the number to watch next
The silver lining is Friday. Bitcoin ETFs returned to a small net inflow of $21.1 million, led by IBIT's $22.4 million, according to Farside data cited by TradingView. One green day does not end a trend, but it suggests the panic selling may have exhausted itself for now. Medium term, CryptoTicker notes ETF outflows have historically clustered around local lows, and the funds still hold well over $120 billion in combined crypto assets — Wall Street has not left the building, it has stepped out for air. The number to watch next week is simple: does ETHA stop bleeding? Until BlackRock's Ethereum investors stop hitting sell, the broader market will struggle to find a floor.
