The suspect in the pistol-whipping of Rick Ross' son bonded out after 50 Cent publicly backed him, the latest twist in the rappers' beef.

What Happened: Bond Posted, Video Posted

Don Roberts, the 20-year-old accused of attacking William Roberts III, Rick Ross' son, bonded out of jail on Wednesday, Oct. 21, after a $50,000 bond was granted at a custody hearing.

Roberts had been arrested Oct. 16 and spent six days behind bars on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery.

Within hours of his release, a video circulated of Roberts thanking 50 Cent for believing in him: "I'm out and I'm innocent. The Lord knows I'm innocent," he said. 50 reshared the clip, writing, "I had a strong feeling this brother was innocent."

Billboard notes it remains unconfirmed whether 50 actually put up the $50,000, though the maneuver came a day after he declared on Instagram that Roberts would "be out tomorrow" and said he was sending attorney Drew Findling, the lawyer who won Lil Durk's acquittal.

Why It's Surprising: Petty to the Next Level

Hip-hop beefs have produced diss tracks, lawsuits and leaked calls, but rarely has one mogul publicly financed the defense of the man accused of assaulting his rival's son.

The Los Angeles Times calls 50 Cent "the king of petty hip-hop feuds" and frames the bail move as the latest strike in a feud dating to the late 2000s, when both artists exchanged diss tracks, including Ross' 2009 "Cold Blood" video depicting 50's fictional funeral.

PopCrush reports 50 said on Instagram he would bond Roberts out specifically "to spite longtime nemesis Ross," and Billboard notes 50 even used the stunt to tease his 2026 "Street Fighter" film.

For a fan base accustomed to diss records, inserting oneself into a rival's family's criminal case is a genuinely new register of provocation.

The Evidence: What the Affidavit Alleges

The underlying incident occurred Oct. 11 near Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

According to the affidavit cited by the Los Angeles Times, William Roberts III was speaking with a woman on a street corner when Don Roberts, her former romantic partner, pulled up and allegedly drew a tan handgun, saying, "I don't care who your daddy is, I'll kill you right here."

William alleged Roberts struck him on the right side of his head with the firearm, causing minor swelling; he did not seek medical attention and said he waited to contact police out of fear. PopCrush reports William later identified Don in a police lineup, leading to the Oct.

16 arrest. Billboard, citing Complex, adds that Roberts pleaded not guilty and was previously arrested in July 2024 on reckless driving, marijuana possession and evidence tampering charges.

The Stakes: A Family, a Case and a Brand War

The stakes run in several directions at once.

For Rick Ross, the case involves his son's safety and a public figure openly championing the accused; the Los Angeles Times separately reports Ross surrendered to Miami police over battery charges from an alleged domestic dispute earlier in October, compounding a rough month.

For 50 Cent, the stunt doubles as promotion: Billboard notes he leveraged the moment to push "Street Fighter," which hit theaters Oct. 16.

Billboard says it reached out to attorneys for both rappers for comment, and no side has confirmed who funded the surety bond.

What Comes Next

The case now moves through Florida's courts while the feud plays out on Instagram. If 50 Cent's promised legal muscle materializes, Drew Findling — fresh off Lil Durk's September acquittal on murder-for-hire charges, as the Los Angeles Times notes — would become a storyline of his own.
