Families identified eight of nine victims of Sunday's Florida Learjet 60 crash: an Austin couple, their two children, and a 20-year-old copilot.
A family of four lost together
CNN reports, via KEZI, that families identified Adam Robinson, Helen Sharp, and their two children, Emma and Charlie Robinson, as victims, along with Rachael Reed, Charmi Fehr, caregiver Anita Maria Cetina, and copilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras.
Robinson co-founded the email marketing platform Robly and founded retention.com, according to the Associated Press. Sharp worked in public relations and was a ceramics artist.
Dudley Sharp, Helen's father, told The Palm Beach Post: 'We had a daughter, her husband and two grandchildren on the plane.' Cetina's family called her 'truly part of the family.'
The final desperate radio calls
Copilot Filgueiras reported ice accumulating on the aircraft at 35,000 feet, with an outside air temperature of -47 degrees Celsius and moderate turbulence bouncing the plane up to 700 feet, according to liveatc.net recordings cited by CNN.
Moments later she shouted 'Mayday, mayday!' — 'We are in an overspeed condition descending 20,000 feet per minute... We're going to crash into the ground!'
ADS-B Exchange flight tracking shows the jet plummeted 27,000 feet in one minute. BBC video captures the final moments before the deadly Florida plane crash.
Why the investigation is so hard
The NTSB faces significant obstacles: Senior Air Safety Investigator Tim Monville said the biggest challenge is recovering major wreckage from the crater on the roadway, while board member Tom Chapman said there is evidence the aircraft broke up before impact, with parts possibly scattered away from the site.
CNN analyst Mary Schiavo warned the steep, uncontrolled descent could have damaged the flight data recorder, and it is unclear whether a cockpit voice recorder was still on board. Weather — icing and a storm cell the plane passed through — is a major focus.
The jet was operated by Aurora Aviation, doing business as Upper Jets.
Second-deadliest US crash of 2026
Sunday's crash was the second deadliest in the US this year per NTSB records cited by CNN, behind June's skydiving plane crash in Butler, Missouri, that killed 12, and the deadliest involving a Learjet 60 in Flight Safety Foundation data.
The jet, traveling from Austin to the Bahamas, struck Military Trail shortly before 1 p.m., leaving roughly 600 people in need of shelter because debris blocked a mobile home park entrance, per Palm Beach County Commissioner Joel Flores. One person on the ground suffered a leg injury.
An NTSB preliminary report is expected within 30 days.
