Jennifer Lawrence debuted her biodesigned haircare line Mes and told The Cut she has had a breast augmentation and plans a facelift one day.
The Launch: Mes Arrives October 27
For the first time in her 20-year career, Jennifer Lawrence is debuting a project that will not appear in theaters or on Netflix.
As The Cut reports in its October 27 cover story, the 36-year-old Oscar winner officially launched Mes (pronounced "Mess" because the other spelling was already trademarked), a "biodesigned haircare" company selling three products: a repair mask, a restyling serum, and a volumizing mist.
She partnered with MIT-trained chemical biological engineer Jasmina Aganovic after watching her 2023 TED Talk, and told the magazine the creative process gave her "that same electric buzz I get from building a character."
The Candid Confessions Taking Headlines
Alongside the launch, Lawrence made unusually frank admissions about cosmetic procedures that multiple outlets picked up within hours.
In The Cut's cover story, she confirmed she has had a breast augmentation and said she plans to get a facelift one day, framing her ethos as looking good with minimal effort: "I want to be a sexy mom. At drop-off, I want to look like a woman that has her s—t together even when I've just woken up and don't have my s—t together."
UNILAD reports she previously told Vogue she gets "baby Botox" and considered buccal fat removal, deciding against it because "everyone will know."
Why It Is Surprising
The announcement lands against a skeptical backdrop. As The Cut notes, it is a tough time to join the celebrity-beauty-brand bandwagon, with fans tending to view such companies cynically as cringe cash grabs rather than genuine passion projects.
Lawrence herself admitted the nerves: "What if nobody gets it? What if everybody hates it?" she asked the magazine, describing her doubts after three years in a "delusional bubble."
Meanwhile, UNILAD and BollywoodShaadis both report that social-media users reacted sharply to her openness about surgery, with commenters debating whether she needed work done at all.
The Evidence: Three Years in the Lab
The Cut details an unusually hands-on process behind the brand.
Lawrence said she sent the restyling serum back to the lab nearly 150 times, tested products on her naturally curly hair while promoting Die My Love and on the set of Martin Scorsese's What Happens at Night, and once smelled of fish after leaving an unscented mask on for four days.
According to the magazine, scientist Aganovic was won over when Lawrence flew to her Boston lab without an entourage and promised, "If you want to do this in five years, I'll still be here." The dry-hair repair mask, produced without water, costs $52 for 150 milliliters per The Cut.
The Stakes for a Reluctant Founder
The stakes cut both ways. Lawrence resisted Instagram for her entire career before joining in September, and The Cut says she has posted only three times yet already has more than 8 million followers, telling the magazine, "If anyone says anything negative, I will quit."
Reality Tea reports she joked that starting a company to get rich "feels like jumping off a cruise ship to land on a door." UNILAD adds that her launch announcement pitched the brand to "NICE PEOPLE WHO DONT LEAVE MEAN COMMENTS," signaling how much online criticism weighs on her new venture.
What Comes Next
Lawrence plans minimal promotion for Mes, according to The Cut, which says she may film product tutorials in a "public or hotel bathroom" to keep her own sink offline, even as she develops a Miss Piggy feature, a rom-com, and a sci-fi thriller shooting next spring.
Her appearance commentary will keep swirling: Us Weekly highlights her "sexy mom" era framing and notes she uses Botox sparingly to preserve facial expressions, while UNILAD reports a facelift remains a stated future plan.
Whether Mes can win over a cynical beauty market is the open question its founder herself keeps raising.
