Konami's Silent Hill: Townfall is out on PS5 and PC as the series' first full-length first-person game, amid PC performance complaints.

What Happened: Townfall Is Out Now

Konami announced on September 24, 2026 that SILENT HILL: Townfall is available now on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Developed by Scottish studio Screen Burn Interactive and co-published by Annapurna Interactive, it is the first psychological horror title in the long-running series — which has sold over 17.8 million copies worldwide as of the end of June 2026 — to be a full-length game presented entirely from a first-person perspective. Players take on the role of Simon Ordell, an outsider who washes onto the icy marina of St. Amelia, a remote island off the coast of Scotland shrouded in deep fog and silence where fragments of memory create an unsettling world.

Why It's a First for the Franchise

The perspective shift is the headline: Wccftech notes that although 2024's free title Silent Hill: The Short Message also used first-person, Konami said the two projects were developed separately and the shared perspective was coincidental. The game blends survival-horror pressure, stealth, melee and firearm combat, and story-woven puzzles. Its signature tool is the CRTV, a portable television that evolves the franchise's iconic warning radio into an active visual device used to expose threats, narrative fragments, and puzzle clues. Screen Burn (formerly No Code), the Glasgow studio behind Stories Untold and the BAFTA-winning Observation, set the game in 1996 and chose Scotland because, writer-director Jon McKellan said, it is the environment its developers know most intimately.

The Reception So Far

Critics are split on the execution. Wccftech scored the game 6.5/10, saying it delivers plenty of the series' famous atmosphere but that clunky stealth and design missteps make it often more frustrating than frightening, and that fans expecting recent highs may want to look for real estate elsewhere. Rely on Horror, by contrast, gave it 8/10, praising a timely, well-paced narrative exploring guilt, corporate greed, and accountability, outstanding voice acting including Terry O'Quinn as Richard, and Pilotpriest's dynamic score — while noting random crashes even on PS5 and imprecise late-game CRTV tuning segments. According to Rely on Horror, a full run took 22.5 hours, longer than Wccftech's reported 10–14 hour estimate.

PC Players Hit a Wall

The launch has a serious caveat on PC. GameGPU reports that developers confirmed they are actively building a patch for the Steam and Epic Games Store versions after a wave of complaints about critical frame rate drops, frequent stutters, and unstable optimization. Some users have reported abnormal processor heating reaching 90°C and even peaking at 100°C, with refund threats and concerns about mass review-bombing if fixes don't arrive quickly. The team has promised to announce the patch's release date once confirmed and thanked players for their support. This is notable because the official requirements are already demanding: Wccftech reports the recommended tier targets 4K at 30 FPS on High with an RTX 3080 or RX 7800 XT.

What Fans Are Doing With It

The community is already deep in St. Amelia. Space4Games has published a walkthrough hub covering chapters from the opening 'Arrival' — including the three-scale puzzle in Zoe Ellis's office — through stealth escapes in Mr. Stewart's house and the elaborate operating-room sequence of 'The Patient,' with later chapters still being added. Eurogamer has a full solution for the Chapter 5 projector puzzle, where players as Richard must find the Projector Bulb, Lens, and Slides and order them against the Meeting Agenda — matching Recent Headlines to slide D through Counter Arguments to slide A — unlocking the CEO Access Card. Puzzle design tied to notes, emails, and environmental clues is a defining trait critics on both sides of the score divide acknowledge.

What Comes Next

The series' momentum is real: Rely on Horror notes the Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill f have sold a combined 8 million units under producer Motoi Okamoto's revival, and frames Townfall as Konami's game to lose. Multiple endings encourage replays — Wccftech reports five total, with three attainable on a first run and two secrets requiring New Game+. Buyers face a $49.99 Standard Edition and a $59.99 Digital Deluxe with 48-hour early access, while pre-order CRTV cosmetic bonuses include a PS5-exclusive Beach Edition. The immediate question is whether the PC performance patch lands fast enough to protect the launch, with the studio directing players to its website and social channels for the date.
