Lil Baby told the NYT's Popcast he and Gunna 'play it cool' in public and would rather settle their differences in person, away from social media.
'We Gonna Play It Cool': Baby Breaks Silence
Lil Baby addressed his estrangement from Gunna on The New York Times' Popcast, and Rolling Out reports he framed it as an unspoken code between Atlanta artists.
"We can not like each other, but we gonna play it cool for y'all," he said, adding that disputes should be handled "off the internet, in person, just us." According to Rolling Out, he stressed the stakes: "we're… really like the ones who hold it down for the town."
From 'Drip Too Hard' to 'No Relationship'
Baller Alert lays out a full timeline of the fallout. The pair's 2018 mixtape Drip Harder debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, with "Drip Too Hard" peaking at No. 4 on the Hot 100 and later earning diamond certification.
Baller Alert notes Baby once called Gunna "family" in a 2021 i-D interview, but the YSL case changed everything: Gunna's December 2022 Alford plea, Baby unfollowing him by January 2023, and a December 2024 interview with Charlamagne Tha God where Baby said, "We don't got no relationship."
Why This Fracture Still Cuts Deep
Both outlets frame the split as a loss for Atlanta rap itself. Rolling Out notes Gunna has repeatedly denied cooperating against Young Thug or other defendants, while the plea deal divided listeners and fueled debates over loyalty.
Baller Alert adds telling details: Baby demanded his DJ stop playing "Drip Too Hard" at a concert, Gunna denied his "Bread & Butter" was aimed at Baby, and 21 Savage publicly called for reconciliation in December 2025 — to no avail.
Gunna, meanwhile, told Billboard the hit was "a no-brainer" to make.
'Fresh' Arrives Without Gunna
Rolling Out reports Lil Baby is moving forward with his album Fresh, due November 6, a 17-track project featuring Future, Young Thug, Rylo Rodriguez, Bally Baby and Fatt Smaxk — with Gunna notably absent from the guest lineup.
He did not reveal what caused the falling-out or hint at reconciliation; per Rolling Out, his message was simply keeping personal disagreements personal. The once-celebrated partnership may stay part of Atlanta history, with another chapter together uncertain.
