Salvadoran streamer El Komanche, co-organizer of Squid Craft Games, died at 30 in Monterrey as tributes pour in and the cause remains unconfirmed.
What Happened in Monterrey
Carlos Mauricio Gómez, the Salvadoran streamer known as El Komanche, died at 30, according to Dexerto, Latin Times and Demócrata.
His representative, Byron Reyes, confirmed the death on October 26 after speaking directly with the family, writing on Instagram Stories that he had already contacted them.
Reports say he was found dead at a residence in Monterrey's Paseo de Cumbres neighborhood, though no official cause of death has been announced and authorities have not formally confirmed the circumstances.
How the Body Was Discovered
The circumstances surrounding the discovery remain murky. According to Infobae, as reported by Dexerto, neighbors noticed the property's front door had been left open since the previous day, and the owners entered over concerns about a possible robbery before finding a body.
Primetimer, citing ABC Noticias, reports the house on Paseo de Niza Street was rented by Komanche and that police found no visible signs of violence.
Latin Times adds that local outlets in Nuevo León reported a man found dead in the neighborhood, with his identity not yet officially confirmed by authorities.
The Squid Craft Games Legacy
Komanche's niche-famous legacy is the Squid Craft Games, the Minecraft competition he organized alongside AuronPlay and Rubius that recreated Netflix's Squid Game challenges for Spanish-language streaming's biggest names.
Latin Times reports the first edition ran January 19–24, 2022, and the 2023 second edition expanded to 200 English- and Spanish-speaking creators with a $100,000 prize. Demócrata notes the project won the Esland award for best miniseries in 2023.
He had roughly 1.7 million Twitch followers, began streaming in 2015, and in January 2026 announced he was leaving Twitch for YouTube, Kick and TikTok.
AuronPlay and Ibai Pay Tribute
The outpouring from Spanish-language streaming's biggest names underlines how central Komanche was. AuronPlay wrote on Instagram that the pair had spoken just four days earlier: "Komanche, my friend, this hurts, this hurts so much."
He recalled Komanche changing flights back to Mexico to stay at his home during a difficult stretch. Ibai Llanos wrote: "Rest in peace, brother. We will remember you all our lives."
Demócrata reports Spreen and Westcol also mourned him, asking respect for family and friends.
Cyberbullying Claims Stay Unproven
Representative Byron Reyes wrote "Bullying on any scale is no joke" on Instagram, per Dexerto, and the World Organization Bullying Sin Fronteras published a statement arguing the case reflects concern about online harassment.
But the group itself cautions that no investigation findings link harassment to his death, and Demócrata states the causes of death have not been confirmed and social media messages cannot establish a connection.
The Bullying Sin Fronteras statement also notes Komanche spoke publicly about mental health difficulties in 2023, while warning against reducing his death to a single cause.
What Comes Next for the Investigation
Komanche's death remains under investigation, according to Primetimer, and no authority has publicly confirmed what happened. Primetimer also reports Komanche described himself on his Twitch profile as "one of the most hated people on the platform" yet said his passion for gaming kept him streaming.
Reyes said he and Komanche had two unfinished shared projects, while Latin Times notes Komanche was linked to La Velada del Año VI in 2026 before his participation was canceled after a premature disclosure. Fans of Spanish-language streaming will be watching for official findings in Nuevo León.
