Prosecutors rested their case against Duane 'Keffe D' Davis in the Tupac murder trial after 24 witnesses, ending with jail calls and interview clips.

What Happened in the Las Vegas Courtroom

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, prosecutors rested their murder case against Duane "Keffe D" Davis in Clark County District Court in Las Vegas, according to ABC7 New York, which reports the state called 24 witnesses over the trial of the nearly 30-year-old killing of Tupac Shakur.

The final witnesses presented jurors with clips from Davis's past interviews and recorded jail calls. Davis is charged under a Nevada theory that someone who helps another person commit murder can be convicted of the crime; prosecutors have not accused him of firing the shots themselves.

Why Davis's Own Words Became the Case

The surprising spine of the prosecution is Davis's own voice.

ABC7 reports that in one recorded jail call after his 2023 arrest, Davis complained that "they're trying to use my words against me" and said he should have stopped doing interviews, while in a YouTube clip he held up his book and urged viewers to buy it to "get the real truth."

In a 2008 police interview played for jurors last week, Davis said he provided the gun and his nephew Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson opened fire from the white Cadillac alongside Shakur and Suge Knight's BMW.

The 'Shot Caller' Testimony — and Its Gaps

According to ABC7 New York, a former Compton gang detective and retired officer Robert Ladd testified Tuesday that Davis was a high-ranking "shot caller" and leader of the South Side Compton Crips, answering that Davis would have been the leader among the four men in the Cadillac and that Anderson could not have opened fire with Davis present without his permission.

But Ladd acknowledged he had no physical evidence placing Davis in Las Vegas that night and no phone records showing Davis ordered the shooting, and said hotel bills and letters collected from Las Vegas in the residences were of unknown dates and current location.

Defense attorney Michael Sanft has characterized Davis's accounts as fabricated bravado and accused investigators of failing to corroborate them.

What Comes Next in Court

The defense is expected to begin presenting its case Thursday, and ABC7 reports that attorney Michael Sanft told the judge he has a detective and two police officers lined up to testify. Davis is still deciding whether to testify in his own defense.

Prosecutors allege Davis orchestrated the drive-by shooting in retaliation for a casino brawl hours earlier involving Shakur and Anderson, and Ladd testified the shooting triggered a 10-day war in Compton between the South Side Crips and Mob Piru that left three people killed and 10 attempted murders.

Separately, SiriusXM reports that jurors in the Lindsay Clancy trial in Plymouth, Massachusetts have begun a sixth day of deliberations on three first-degree murder counts in the 2023 deaths of her children Cora, Dawson, and Callan.
