FF7 Revelation: 200GB File, 100-Hour Finale Emerges
By @sharedot · · 7 pages
Square Enix's final FF7 remake chapter is shaping up as a 100-hour, roughly 200GB epic launching April 2027 on every current platform at once.
What Tokyo Game Show Revealed
New details on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final chapter of Square Enix's remake trilogy, surfaced at the Tokyo Game Show. According to GAMINGbible, director Naoki Hamaguchi estimates the game is 'probably going to be around 200GB of game' — though he stressed that figure is not finalised and final sizes may differ between platforms. Hamaguchi also said a completionist run could 'easily take over a hundred hours,' and revealed he has personally completed the game 46 times. Both figures tower over the previous entries: GAMINGbible notes Final Fantasy 7 Remake used 100GB and Rebirth used 155GB, making the finale the largest of the trilogy by a wide margin.
Why a Simultaneous Launch Matters
The release pattern itself is a first for the remake project. GAMINGbible reports that Revelation arrives on PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and S, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch 2 — a simultaneous, all-platform launch, unlike the staggered console windows of Remake and Rebirth. Contrast that with Rockstar's roadmap for Grand Theft Auto VI, which Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick defended at the annual shareholders' meeting, saying the company generally launches 'for any platforms for which there's a meaningful audience' over time, and that PC 'is becoming more and more important to our company' — yet GTA VI still debuts console-first on November 19. Square Enix is going the other way.
Physical Discs Won't Save Your Storage
Perhaps the most controversial confirmation is that the physical edition is not fully on disc. Per GAMINGbible, Hamaguchi said physical ownership will not remove the storage burden: even after installing from a disc, players will need an additional download to play. That means collectors who hoped a cartridge or Blu-ray would bypass the massive footprint are out of luck, and owners of space-constrained hardware — the outlet specifically flags Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series S — should expect optimisations to bring the size down, since nothing is locked in yet. The pre-order bonus for any edition is the Summoning Materia: Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle.
Highwind, FITS and Save Bonuses
GAMINGbible's rundown describes Revelation as adapting the final hours of the original game, from the Great Glacier chapter to the final stand against Sephiroth, with Cloud, Barret, Zack, Yuffie, Tifa, Aerith and Red XIII among the playable cast. The Highwind airship returns as a hub, letting players parachute anywhere in the world to explore. A new job system called FITS lets outfits grant roles like Warrior, Black Mage, Knight and Summoner. Save-transfer bonuses reward series veterans: a Remake save unlocks the Chocobo & Moogle summon materia, while a Rebirth save grants Phoenix, per GAMINGbible.
Stakes, Editions and What Comes Next
The pricing ladder is steep: GAMINGbible lists the standard edition at $69.99, Premium and Deluxe tiers at $99.99 with the Story Expansion Pass (two DLC chapters, Sephiroth and Vincent & The Turks), a Premium Plus at $109.99, a Trilogy Edition with Remake and Rebirth at $84.99, and a $349.99 Collector's Edition with a Cloud, Sephiroth and Zack statue plus a promotional Magic: The Gathering card. GAMINGbible's guide lists the launch as April 8, 2027, with certain digital editions granting 24-hour early access on April 7. Two DLC chapters have been announced without dates or pricing, and final storage requirements remain unconfirmed — expect Square Enix to firm both up as the April window approaches.
