On Sunday, October 4, Atlético Bucaramanga hosted Junior de Barranquilla at the Américo Montanini stadium in the date-13 clash of the Liga BetPlay 2026-2, with kickoff at 6:10 p.m., a schedule corroborated by both Win Sports and Zona Cero. The result, as detailed by Claro Sports, was a 3-1 home victory achieved in remarkable fashion: Bucaramanga lost a player to an early red card yet scored three times anyway. Carlos Romaña's seventh-minute header — with a deflection off José Ortiz — opened the scoring, Luis Muriel equalized from the penalty spot at 25 minutes, and then Freddy Hinestroza (33') and Émerson Batalla (37') put the Leopardos in control before halftime.

For the Sharks, the defeat deepens an already dire situation. Zona Cero reports Junior sits sixteenth with 9 points, needing to win seven of its remaining nine matches to reach the top-eight classification, and that manager Sebastián Viera believes the target is still possible. Zona Cero also notes a painful historical sting: before this visit, Junior had not beaten Bucaramanga away since October 9, 2022, when Luis 'Cariaco' González scored the winner in a 1-0 result. Defender Daniel Rivera told Zona Cero the team's minds were fixed only on the three points in Bucaramanga, 'because we have given away ground, but we have a new opportunity to keep climbing the table.'

Claro Sports frames the two clubs as 'completely opposite realities' meeting on date 13: Bucaramanga chasing a milestone run and a fast track to the quadrangulars, Junior 'on the brink of an early elimination' and struggling to find its level. The result pushes the Leopardos closer to qualification while leaving the Tiburón needing an immediate recovery. The pre-match squad moves reported by primertiempo.co and Win Sports — Fydriszewski, Kevin Pérez and Sub-20 defender Carlos Pérez in, with Barrios, Sarmiento and Dilan Villarreal out — did not pay off on this occasion, though Win Sports had noted both sides arrived needing points.

Three threads dominated the coverage for devoted followers of the Colombian league. First, Bucaramanga's efficiency in front of goal: Claro Sports observes the Leopardos have built their name this season on scoring without needing to create many chances, and the 3-1 proved the point even shorthanded. Second, the officiating: Claro Sports calls García's red card disputable given the open-field angle, while Zona Cero had flagged Wílmar Roldán — of Antioquia — as the appointed referee days earlier. Third, Junior's squad roulette under Viera, whose first six matches in charge Zona Cero tallies at two wins, one draw and two defeats, a record that now needs dramatic improvement with nine finals remaining.
