Blue Man Group Finally Reaches Broadway With Holiday Show

Blue Man Group, the mute, blue-painted percussion trio that became an Off-Broadway institution, will make its long-delayed Broadway debut this holiday season. According to a Deadline exclusive, the all-new "A New Holiday Surprise" begins performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on November 12, 2026, with opening night set for November 17 and a strictly limited run through January 3, 2027. The engagement is described by the company as its first-ever touring holiday production, and the New York stop marks the first time the Blue Men have ever played a Broadway house. It is also their first return to New York since closing, as TheaterMania notes the troupe concluded its Astor Place Theatre run in February 2025.

The surprise is that a show this famous never reached Broadway in the first place. Playbill reports that Blue Man Group ran for 34 years and some 17,000 performances at the Astor Place Theatre before closing in 2025, becoming a downtown institution and an international franchise seen, by the company's count, by more than 50 million people worldwide. Despite that scale, Broadway never figured into the plan — until a holiday show changed the calculus. According to Deadline and TheaterMania, "A New Holiday Surprise" features classic holiday music performed on Blue Man Group's signature custom-built instruments, as the Blue Men encounter the traditions, rituals and "joyful absurdities" of the season — with a few unexpected detours along the way. The company's synopsis, quoted by Deadline, promises the show explores "timeless themes of generosity, presence, creativity, and human connection," and argues holiday traditions don't always have to go according to plan. Deadline describes it as an "all-new festive spectacular," positioning the wordless trio's chaotic stagecraft against familiar seasonal fare.

The Broadway engagement anchors a small holiday tour, with corroborated dates reported by both Deadline and TheaterMania: the show plays the CIBC Theatre in Chicago from November 24 to December 13, and the Boch Center-Wang Theatre in Boston from December 15 to 23. Deadline reports that other markets are still to be announced, suggesting the company views this limited engagement as a test of a repeatable holiday franchise rather than a one-off homecoming. The dual structure — a marquee Broadway debut plus regional stops — mirrors how the group built its global footprint from a single downtown theatre.
