Influence Media Partners closed its $600M-plus acquisition of Anthem's catalogs, adding The Weeknd, Britney Spears and Rush hits to its portfolio.
The deal is done
Influence Media Partners has completed its acquisition of "substantially all" of Anthem Entertainment's assets in a transaction valued at more than $600 million, struck in collaboration with funds and accounts managed by BlackRock, according to a November 5 announcement.
Music Business Worldwide reports the deal covers Anthem's music publishing catalogs, its film and TV publishing assets, and its portfolio of master recordings. The transaction was first announced on July 29, when Influence said it expected to close in Q4 2026.
Truist led the debt financing and advised Influence Media, while Goldman Sachs served as exclusive financial advisor to Anthem, per Music Business Worldwide.
A catalog full of hits
The acquisition adds stakes in more than 24,000 released songs and 60,000 additional unexploited works to Influence Media's portfolio, a figure all three outlets report.
Among the titles named are The Weeknd's "Die For You," Britney Spears' "Oops!… I Did It Again," Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack," Timbaland's "The Way I Are," Cody Johnson's "'Til You Can't," Rush's "Tom Sawyer," Nelly Furtado's "Promiscuous," and OneRepublic's "Counting Stars."
Influence says the works also appear in film and TV properties including "Spider-Man," "Breaking Bad" and "LEGO Ninjago." Variety notes the assets span music publishing, film and television publishing, and master recordings.
Why the price tag surprises
Music Business Worldwide reports that in June, citing Billboard, it was told Influence emerged as the winning bidder with an offer of a little over $650 million — and that it was the third time in a decade the assets had been auctioned, after failed sales in 2017 and 2022.
Billboard's reporting, as cited by MBW, said Anthem's annual net publisher's and label share stood at $45–50 million, and that the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Anthem's controlling shareholder, was set to exit through the sale.
That a sale finally closed after two failed auctions is the news that breaks the pattern.
The stakes for Influence
Influence called the completed transaction "a significant milestone" that strengthens "its position as a leading independent music and entertainment investment platform."
Founder and Co-Managing Partner Lylette Pizarro McLean said the catalog is "music that has become woven into iconic moments, films, and shows." BlackRock's Paul Braude praised the assets' "enduring cultural relevance" as long-term value for investors.
Hits Daily Double notes Influence's existing portfolio includes rights tied to Future, Enrique Iglesias, Blake Shelton, Tainy and Julia Michaels, and that it launched the frontline label and publisher SLANG in 2024.
What comes next
According to Billboard's reporting cited by Music Business Worldwide, the deal excluded Compact Media, Anthem's audiovisual secondary-rights administration business, and the Anthem Entertainment platform itself.
Anthem, rebranded from ole Media Management in 2019, sold its production music portfolio to Slipstream in 2024, covering over 650,000 tracks. Anthem CEO Jason Klein said he was "proud" his team realized the catalog's value and sees the works entering "their next era" under Influence.
Meanwhile, Variety's moves column adds industry shifts the same day, including Jackson Wang signing with WME and Nebula17's global distribution partnership with the Orchard.
