Delta Ends 17 International Routes in Network Reshuffle

Delta is ending 17 international routes and adding five new nonstops from Los Angeles, led by Manila and Vancouver.

Both TheTravel and Nomad Lawyer report that Delta Air Lines has ended, or plans to discontinue, roughly 17 international routes as it reshapes its global network. The cuts span Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America, South America, and Oceania. Among the most notable: New York JFK to Brussels ended January 5, 2026, after 34 years of operation, while JFK to London Gatwick ended in September 2025 and never returned for summer 2026, with Delta shifting its London flying to Heathrow. The route list includes Atlanta–Saint Vincent (September 2026), Boston–São Paulo (March 2025), Detroit–Tulum, and Minneapolis–St. Maarten, among others.

The surprise is less the total count than the specifics. According to both outlets' analysis of Cirium schedule data, Delta ended JFK–Brussels after 34 years, even as it reinstated Atlanta–Brussels in June 2025 after a five-year pandemic suspension. Nomad Lawyer highlights Boston–São Paulo Guarulhos as arguably the shortest-lived route in the period, launched in January 2025 and terminated by March — barely two months of service, just before Delta One lounges opened in Boston and Seattle. TheTravel notes the freed Boeing 767-300ER aircraft were redeployed to Porto, Malta, and Sardinia, making clear the airline is reallocating widebodies rather than simply shrinking.

The offsetting expansion centers on Los Angeles. Per TheTravel and Nomad Lawyer, Delta has five new nonstop routes from LAX: Manila, Vancouver, Newark, Palm Beach, and Monterey. Vancouver service resumes November 21, 2026, after an eight-year hiatus; Monterey returns December 19 after 19 years, operated by SkyWest Embraer E175 Delta Connection jets; Manila launches March 28, 2027, on an Airbus A350-900; Palm Beach starts year-round in November; and Newark begins April 12, 2027, on the A321neo with at least two daily flights. Both outlets say Delta will be the only U.S. airline flying nonstop between Los Angeles and Manila, challenging Philippine Airlines' long dominance.

For travelers, TheTravel reports the practical effect is fewer direct options on affected routes, meaning connections through other Delta hubs or alternative carriers — and a higher risk of longer journey times. Both outlets note Delta is cutting its longest nonstop domestic route: the Boston–Honolulu winter schedule, planned for 84 departures between December 19, 2026, and April 25, 2027, is down to just 16 — an 81% decrease. Nomad Lawyer frames the whole reshuffle as hub-and-spoke optimization, chasing premium demand at Heathrow and the VFR market to Manila while establishing sole-carrier positions like LAX–Monterey.
