Jhené Aiko has earned the first No. 1 album of her career, with Westside Whimsy debuting at the top of the Billboard 200 for the chart dated September 26. According to Billboard, the album earned 74,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the tracking week ending September 17. The milestone arrives nearly 13 years after Aiko first reached the chart with Sail Out, which debuted and peaked at No. 8 in 2013, making the record her sixth Top 10 project and the first full-length studio album since 2020's Chilombo.

The No. 1 caps a decade of near-misses for the Los Angeles singer. HotNewHipHop notes that Souled Out reached No. 3 in 2014 and Trip landed at No. 5 in 2017, while 2020's Chilombo previously held her career high at No. 2 and went on to earn an Album of the Year Grammy nomination. Westside Whimsy now resets that ceiling, and per The Source, it also delivers her first simultaneous No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and R&B charts, plus the top female R&B consumption and streaming debuts of 2026.

Streaming drove nearly all of the opening week. Both 24Hip-Hop and HotNewHipHop, citing Billboard, report that 70,000 of the 74,000 units were streaming-equivalent albums, representing 71.33 million official on-demand streams of the album's songs. Traditional album sales added 3,500 units, with track-equivalent activity accounting for the remaining 500. The project also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Streaming Albums chart, and The Source reports it opened at No. 1 globally and in the U.S. on both Apple Music and Spotify.

The rollout was unconventional. The Source reports the album arrived September 11 as a surprise digital-only release through ALLEL/Artclub/Def Jam Recordings, formally announced only three days earlier, per HotNewHipHop. The 20-track project features Kendrick Lamar on the closely watched reunion cut "So Good," Ab-Soul on "Love Bomb," Tyga on "Like, Whatever," Larry June on "Neighbors," and OHMA on the closer "Golden Coast." According to The Source, "So Good" earned the No. 1 Top Song Debut on Spotify in the U.S., and nine album tracks landed on the platform's Top Songs Debut U.S. chart.

The chart result marks a turning point for an artist whose catalog has long defined modern R&B without a chart-topping summit. Per The Source, Aiko is the first female R&B artist to lead the Billboard 200 in 2026 and the first since SZA returned to No. 1 with SOS in May 2025. She celebrated on Instagram by thanking listeners and telling fans, per HotNewHipHop, "What's mine is ours." The album explores vulnerability, self-discovery and healing while honoring the place that shaped her, and visuals for "Nothing Nice To Say" and ARK TO AGARTHA: A WESTSIDE WHIMSY SAGA (PART 1) are already out.
