Future surprise-dropped 'Ya Hit' on Nov. 6, putting Drake and Travis Scott on the same song for the first time and with rising star Loe Shimmy.

What happened: a surprise posse cut

Future released "Ya Hit" on Friday, November 6, a surprise drop on Freebandz/Epic featuring Drake, Travis Scott and Florida rapper Loe Shimmy.

Billboard reports it is the first time the trio of Future, Drake and Travis Scott has joined forces on a single track, with Loe Shimmy handling chorus duties.

Stereogum's Tom Breihan calls it "the kind of event-style posse cut we don't get too often anymore," describing production from ATL Jacob and London Cyr as "a corroded smear of glitchy bass and gothy synth-tones."

Why it is surprising: a beef-era thaw

The reunion is striking because of where these artists stood during the 2024 Drake and Kendrick Lamar battle. Stereogum notes Future was an important supporting player in that feud, with Kendrick lashing out on the Future/Metro Boomin track "Like That."

The Fader adds that Travis Scott encouraged Future and Metro Boomin to play "Like That" at Rolling Loud, and that Drake and Travis have seemingly been at odds since "Meltdown" off UTOPIA in 2023. Billboard says the song "seemingly sends a message" that the rumored friction is no longer a thing.

The verses: shade and GTA VI

The Fader describes the lyrics as "straight contempt and disdain," with Future taking back a G-Wagon and Drake aiming at a rival rapper's pockets: "Your album ain't gettin' no better, it's done, so submit it / You know who gettin' paid the same as your advance? My assistant."

Billboard reports Sexyy Red supplies ad-libs behind Drake's verse, while Travis bats cleanup shouting out Grand Theft Auto 6: "In the trap with the vibes, they wouldn't survive, this s—t GTA VI."

The evidence: Houston sightings and a snippet

The Source reports a single snippet set the Internet ablaze before release, and that Future teased something big via X after appearing at the CFDA Awards in a full Louis Vuitton look.

Billboard says footage emerged on social media of Shimmy, Drake, Future, Travis Scott and Sexyy Red at Area 29 in Houston on Thursday, November 5, apparently shooting a visual at a strip club.

The Fader notes Drake and Travis were also seen courtside at a Rockets game and at Ye's record-breaking stadium show on Halloween.

The stakes: momentum and a return to A-list alliances

The Source reports "Ya Hit" is the first official single from Future's forthcoming album, following The Real Me, his 12th No. 1 album and 17th chart-topper on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, tying Drake and The Temptations for the most since 1965.

The Fader frames the reunion as business as usual for hip-hop's A-listers and argues rap's biggest stars are finding inspiration in rising stars like Shimmy — a trend it says could be "a path forward" after chart rules changed.

What comes next

Billboard reports Future is teasing another LP, apparently titled Infinity, and The Source says he takes the stage at Camp Flog Gnaw next weekend in one of the event's most anticipated sets. Billboard also notes a visual for the collaboration appeared to be in the works after the Houston shoot.
