The Jets will get Breece Hall back from a quad injury against the Chiefs, but Garrett Wilson is out while remaining in concussion protocol.

What Happened: One Back, One Out

The New York Jets will have running back Breece Hall in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs after he missed five games with a quadriceps injury, but they will be without leading receiver Garrett Wilson.

The timing is a significant swing for an offense preparing to face Kansas City.

Why It Matters: Losing the AFC's Top Target

Wilson's absence is a heavy blow by any measure. He has a team-leading 43 catches, tied for the most in the AFC and ninth in the NFL, for 527 yards and three touchdowns, and his 63 targets rank second in the AFC.

Against the Raiders he had six receptions for 83 yards on a team-high 12 targets, and he was Geno Smith's intended target on the end-zone play when Chinn came up with a game-sealing interception. Glenn acknowledged the loss directly: 'I mean, I think it speaks for itself,' the coach said.

'Any time you lose a player of that magnitude, it's always tough.'

Hall's Return and the Backfield Question

Hall's return comes with a wrinkle: Braelon Allen has filled in impressively, per the Associated Press reporting in the pack, rushing for more than 100 yards three times during Hall's absence, including a career-high 147 yards last week.

Before being hurt at Detroit on September 27, Hall had just 163 yards on 51 carries across three games, a career-worst 3.2 yards per attempt, plus 10 catches for 102 yards.

Rather than pick a starter, Glenn and offensive coordinator Frank Reich have insisted they plan to mix both as a 1-2 punch: 'Nothing's changed from how I see this,' Glenn said. 'Both of those guys are playing.'

Who Steps Up for Wilson

Adonai Mitchell looks like the leading candidate to absorb targets. He had a breakout performance against Las Vegas, catching seven passes for a career-high 142 yards and a touchdown in his second game back after missing four games with a finger injury that required surgery, according to FOX Sports.

Rookie Omar Cooper Jr., who previously put up consecutive 100-yard receiving games, was held without a target last week. Isaiah Williams, Tim Patrick and rookie Malik McClain are on the active roster, with Sterling Shepard, Jamaal Pritchett and Joseph Manjack IV on the practice squad.

The Full Injury Picture and What Comes Next

The Jets are not entirely battered.

Rookie edge rusher David Bailey, the No. 2 overall pick who leads the team with 5.5 sacks, returns after missing one game with a groin injury, and tight end Mason Taylor, who hurt his back late against Las Vegas, was a full practice participant Friday and is cleared to play.

Cornerback Nahshon Wright (back), edge rusher Joseph Ossai (ankle) and defensive lineman Harrison Phillips (ankle) are questionable, while linebacker Trevin Wallace (groin) is out.
