Billboard reports Dr. Dre revealed Sting as a featured guest on 'Missionary,' his first full Snoop Dogg album since 1993's 'Doggystyle.'
A Surprise Reveal After the Olympics
Billboard reports that Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, fresh off their headline-grabbing performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics closing ceremony, are aiming to release their joint album *Missionary* in November. The biggest surprise, per Billboard, is the guest list: legendary British rocker Sting appears as a featured artist on the album. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight cited by Billboard, Dre could barely contain himself — "We have Sting on the song. Man, it's an amazing roster of artists that's on this album" — before admitting, "I shouldn't have revealed that, to be honest." The slip gives devoted hip-hop listeners the kind of unexpected cross-genre pairing the charts rarely preview.
Why Sting on a Dre Record Matters
The pairing lands with extra weight because of what *Missionary* represents. Billboard notes it is the first full-length project Dre has produced for Snoop since their iconic 1993 debut *Doggystyle*, the album that followed *The Chronic*'s 1992 introduction of Snoop to the world. Billboard quotes Dre promising "a different level of maturity with his lyrics and with my music," calling it "some of the best music I've done in my career" and predicting "an album that women are going to enjoy." Pulling Sting — a rock and pop institution — into that legacy project is exactly the kind of credit-sheet twist a devoted listener would talk about, and Billboard frames it as the album's defining reveal.
The Production Race to November
Billboard's report also captures Dre deep in the mixing trenches, with a hard deadline shaping the rollout. According to Billboard, Dre explained the track-count tug-of-war: "I wanted 14 songs, Snoop wants 16, so we have that thing happening." He told the outlet he was "on song number 11 as far as the mixes go" and that he had "to be done and delivered by September 1 to have a November release." Billboard adds the historical stakes for the Compton producer, whose *The Chronic* hit No. 3 on the Billboard 200, sent "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang" to No. 2 on the Hot 100, and whose *2001* delivered "Still D.R.E." and "Forgot About Dre."
November Gets Crowded
November is shaping up as a crowded month beyond Dre and Snoop. MELODIC Magazine reports that Bailey Spinn has announced her sophomore album *death & devotion*, due Nov. 13 via AWAL with 12 tracks including "homicide," "voodoo," and "start again." MELODIC says her new single "long sleeves in summer," featuring Sleeping With Sirens frontman Kellin Quinn, is a rock ballad about self-image and mental health drawing on bands like Loathe, Pierce The Veil, and Sleeping With Sirens. Per MELODIC, she is also on the road supporting Scene Queen on the METALICIOUS Tour through October.
