Deepinder Goyal's brain-tracking Temple wearable opens pre-orders Nov 1 at ₹85,000, with a lifetime subscription included.

What happened: pre-orders open November 1

Temple, the brain-monitoring wearable developed by Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal, will open pre-orders for its first batch on November 1, 2026.

Early-access invitations shared with select users list the device at ₹85,000, a figure that includes a lifetime subscription, though the company has not formally confirmed the final retail price.

Goyal confirmed the schedule himself in an X post on October 21, writing "The wait is over. Temple Batch 01 pre orders open November 1." Orders will be placed through the Temple app, and invited users must sign in with the email address that received the invitation.

Why it is surprising: a sensor on your temple

Temple abandons the wrist entirely. The small, pill-shaped, screenless device sticks to the side of the head between the forehead and ear, using single-use adhesive strips called Grips to maintain skin contact.

PaidFreeDroid reports the hardware has no screen, no buttons and no vibration motor, functioning purely as a passive data logger that syncs to the companion app.

That placement targets blood flow near the head rather than peripheral pulse readings from the wrist or finger, a fundamentally different proposition from the smartwatches and smart rings that dominate the premium wearable market.

The evidence: BrainFlow and the Entropy score

Temple's BrainFlow technology uses optical sensors to track signals associated with blood flow, oxygenation and cognitive load, and the device generates an Entropy score from 1 to 250 meant to indicate physiological strain, influenced by factors such as sleep, exercise, stress and caffeine.

CIOL reports that a September 2026 preprint study on medRxiv compared the BrainFlow index with transcranial Doppler ultrasound in 23 healthy adults, finding correlations of roughly 0.8 in tested conditions — but the study was funded by Temple, had not been peer reviewed, and the company itself says the product is for wellness and research purposes, not medical diagnosis.

The economics: ₹85,000 and a lifetime subscription

The reported ₹85,000 price puts Temple in the same bracket as premium smartwatches, but Batch 01 is the only tier said to include permanent platform access.

PaidFreeDroid notes competitors charge recurring fees — Whoop 4.0 roughly ₹2,499 per month and Oura Ring ₹599 per month — while warning that future Temple batches are expected to move to subscription plans.

There is also a hidden recurring cost: replacement adhesive Grips are consumables users must keep buying. According to Business Today, the company has not confirmed how many units the first batch will include or the final retail price.

Celebrity proof points and design

Goyal has drawn attention to the device by wearing it during an appearance on Raj Shamani's podcast, and Business Today reports that Indian badminton player PV Sindhu has been spotted wearing it during live matches.

Temple arrives in six finishes — True Gold, Rose Gold, Black Mirror, Real Jade, Deep Blue and Purple Funk — with Times Now reporting that Real Jade, Deep Blue and Purple Funk are limited-edition colours whose availability may depend on first-batch allocation.

Goyal has said the wearable can be used while running, swimming and showering, and describes the made-to-order strategy as "grow slow."

What comes next: delivery in early 2027

Each Batch 01 device will be handmade to order, and Goyal has said buyers can expect delivery within three months of ordering — meaning customers ordering when pre-orders open on November 1 could receive devices in early 2027.

The wider rollout, general sale date and final pricing remain unannounced.

Beyond logistics, Temple faces two bigger tests: delivering its initial handmade units with quality intact, and proving that BrainFlow and Entropy offer insights people find genuinely useful beyond what conventional wearables already provide.
